If we’re attaching that extra long straw to the WD-40, why can’t I just go in through the front of the dashboard and up the canal until I reach the blower motor?

you rock. did this on my 2012 S60 and 2012 XC60 and stopped that annoying sound. Did use WD40 and used couple of plastic straws — was able to just get it into the bearing location. This is so easy compared to dashboard removal.

Thanks so much. Worked like a charm on my 2014 T6.

Thanks so much for the awsome vedio. Are u spraying on the rod? Or through the fan rotor holes? What is the best way to remove the plastic clips? Thanks again.

I got a similar noise from my s80 2015-2016. Same procedure?

My heater fan was making a terrible hum after having the windscreen replaced. Volvo dealership wanted to sell me a new fan motor, which requires stripping the whole dashboard. I followed your instructions to access the fan, removed a piece of foam rubber (dropped by the windscreen fitrer). Problem solved. THANK YOU for this video.

Tibor Szabo says:

Thank you sir. Just did this on my 2011 V60 (right hand drive – so the fan was facing the other way).
The one wiper was in the way when I removed the plastic cover beneath the windscreen, so I had to put the wipers in "service" mode – just hold the wiper stalk up after switching off the ignition and they move to the up position.
I used Q20 (a lubricant and cleaning spray we use in South Africa – similar to WD40), and I attached a bendy drinking straw to the existing spray pipe with some sticky tape, to get the necessary length (and so I could direct the spray accurately with the bendy straw bit).

I had to spray a few times and there's a definite improvement. It still squeaks a bit around halfway, but then it quietens down – maybe I need to run it for a few days to let the Q20 work in properly.

Thanks for the excellent tip!
