In this video I replace the air compressor on a 2012 Land Rover LR4. This is the same process as for the LR3 and Range Rover Sport (2006-2013). The vehicle had a “Normal Height Only” suspension warning on the dash and a “vehicle Lifting Slowly” error. Problem solved! Enjoy!
According to a long desicussion with grok, leaving that PITA bolt off is NOT advisable for several good reasons. Anyone here have a trick or order of assembly tips to get it back in?
Well done thank you sir.
Hey thank you so much friend. I replaced my compressor but now the car is stuck in the extended height and wont go down, not even when driving. What could be the problem ?
Did this job today ….was an absolute pig of a job ….did it with the car on jack stands …..and new compressor still hasn't solved my problem on an l320 …
How is that aftermarket compressor holding up?
I'm getting the gallery pressure increasing too slowly suspension error on a 2011 rover. I don't know if it's worth going for the brand name Hitachi on an old car, but at the same time I don't want to buy something that will last an year at most.
Thanks for the detailed video.
Would this correct a suspension fault message. Vehicle only allows for "normal height" and currently the front air shocks won't raise at all.
Would you mind sharing a link to the amazon part you bought? Like you said, there are a few options. Buying the same one you chose that you vouch for would give me some peace of mind! Thank you for the video walkthrough!
Does the compressor come with the desiccant chamber? If not how do I know which one to get?
Thank you so much for this video it help me alot
Was yours an AMK compressor? Where did you get the replacement and for how much?
Great video and very detailed, I barely replaced mine as well and on the rear air lines the one that sits higher than the other i pushed it all the way in but it seems to be sorta lose it won’t stay all the way forward like the one beneath it, is that normal I turned the car on and air seems to build up nice and I don’t hear any leaks.
Hi. On my 2012 range rover sport, its come up with only normal height available and terrain modes unavailable, would that point to needing a new air compressor,?
Do you need to calibrate height sensors after changing the compressor?
Prior to swapping out the compressor; did you happen to check the rear lines for any clogs, if so, how’d you do that? Is there a quick hack to test or declog?
Great video, do you have links to the compressor you installed. Maybe also an update on how it’s working out? Thanks!
Excellent tutorial! I was looking at $1500 replacement at Land Rover. I bought a compressor on Amazon for $125. Gotta tell you though getting the old one off was a major major operation! But after several… OK more than several choice words I was finally able to remove the old one. Installing the new one was a piece of cake probably 30 minutes at most.
Don’t know how long the cheap compressor will last but now I know what to do. Thanks again for a great video! Keep them coming. 4:27

Great video, thanks. I've been getting the "normal height only" and "pressure fills too slowly" error messages a lot lately so it seems about time to tackle this job.
Curious, mine just stopped running completely and has dropped all the way down, red suspension fault with warning of not to exceed 30 mph. My question is guess, if my compressor simply went out, why did it drop all the way down
Bro, this was good. I was wondering how the hell you were gonna get that top bolt back in and then you said you're not gonna bother with it. 100% would have been mine call too.
Ordered the Hitachi replacement compressor and it arrived today. Gonna give this a go this weekend.
Hello, and looking for help please! I have a 2010 RRS with the same "Normal Height Only" message on the dash and fault "pressure increases too slowly when filling reservoir" from the scanner. The front suspension drops down after maybe an hour of sitting but it raises up fairly quickly upon restarting engine. At first I thought front valve block but maybe leak is at the compressor? Maybe both? Thanks for any help…
Thanks so much for the video Evan! So helpful, do you have a link to the compressor you purchased on Ebay? Cheers
