The 01 – 04 Volvos are known to have a faulty designed CEM. At some point many of these CEM begin to overheat because of design flaw. I had the same problem in my 04 s60. I removed the CEM on pulled the metal cover off of one of the components and wired up a computer fan. The metal cover trapped a huge amount of heat…it’s been 2 years and still works great. I’ve heard of people using tiny heat sinks, also.
