How stupid do you need to be to have to be told to replace worn parts? Get these people off the road
Can we get a similar video for control arm bushings?
Which came first. The ball or the socket?
If it’s a third gen 4runner, you err on the side of caution and replace them every oil change.
When do you replace your Toyota ball joints ? When I get the recall from Toyota
You only work on Toyotas at your shop? No Honda's?
The ball joint on my passenger lower control arm of my 2004 Tacoma failed without any warning after 240,000 miles and caused $7000 in damage to my rig. Now I just replace the control arms at recommended intervals
AND I have a 97 4 runner. I heard the should reversed? Not safe I’m told. Can you address? Thanks. Please do a question answer weekly podcast.
I’m sad I didn’t see this video earlier but think the dealership just scammed me as they stated both my lower ball joints needed replacing due to leaking grease. Ughh
Thanks for the up-prise techninque of testing the ball joints. I have a bit of tie-rod paranoia so that could be a good topic. We've had 3 tie rodt failures, starting with a '72 Toyota and one that I caught just in time by do the jack-up rock test. Luckily two of the tie rod failures happened when my wife was backing out of the driveway. But the 3rd happened to her out on the road. It was an 84 Grand Marquis. I don't know how she did, it but she drove it somehow to the bay doors of the local Canadian Tire. She went in and told them that a tie rod was shot. They laughed at her…but….
IMO this is the biggest scam going at Toyota dealerships. I've actually seen one car, a Corolla, that had bad ball joints in my 28 years working on Toyotas. They were worn and making noises when turning on uneven roads. But I plead guilty to selling ball joints because they look bad.
This video is very timely! I was just looking up part numbers today for my 2011 4Runner with 208,000 and a 2005 Tacoma with 149,000 miles on the original ball joints with a decent amount of off-road on washboard forest roads.
How about for a 1st Gen 2001 Tundra with only 60k?
My car ball joint is so bad you can hear clunk when hit gas and release. When remove it you can move and spin the ball using fingers. That's clearly unsafe to drive.
This is a good demo video. This definitely deserves to sit in the "How to maintain your Toyota" Playlist!
Man, this video could not have come at a better time for my Corolla with 199,000 miles ….. Over 2K by the time I have to change those squeaky control arm bushings. I will be replacing the complete control arms and wondered with that high mileage if I should just keep the old ones. Money is tight and I have other suspension parts I have to change too. Alignment won’t work anymore and he has said ball joint don’t affect alignment unless the ball joint is broken.
Brilliant video. You are great at explaining things. Thanks
God bless you & yours brother! You help out so many people with your content! Love the fact that you don’t hide your relationship with Christ! He’s also my God! God bless!

Et tu, ball joint?
It would be nice if you would say what is the difference between a Toyota/Lexus ball joint and any other ball joint
Bro what about my joints
7:27 any first gen owners, you have been warned.
What do you recommend if a ball joint is discontinued?
I'm just about to change the LBJ's on my IS350, great timing
This dude keeps teaching me stuff i didnt know !!!!!
Great content
