A Toyota master diagnostic technician shows you how to replace rear brakes with electronic parking brake on Toyota and Lexus without a scan tool and without using the incorrect method of wires.
In this highly requested video by my viewers I cover the procedure to correctly retract the motor for the electronic parking brake for Toyota and Lexus equipped with this system.
This is an official procedure from the repair manual from Toyota. The car is designed this way with this procedure. I see many videos on the internet instructing to use a small battery to activate the motor, Not only is that not the correct procedure but it could cause serious damage to the expensive electronic parking brake actuator.

That's a lot of steps and somewhat confusing. The 12v battery jumper sounds easier.
Thank you for this! I tried the methods in other videos, but none would work on mine. Maybe because mine was built in Japan, it is different?
does this work in honda and any other cars
Very cool that a scan is not needed to retract the EPB. Does this procedure apply to Toyota only or it would work on other manufacturers as well like Subaru and Honda?
Great, these instructions got me there, after a number of others did not. It is a convuluted sequence, but there must be some logic underlying this. Thanks Ahmed.
Oh, I wish I had seen this last night. Don't know why it didn't show up in my search but the videos I did watch were pretty amateurish, hard to follow at times, and I had some major issues working on a 2022 RAV4 this morning. Not going to go into detail but I ended up unbolting the motor from the caliper and manually pressing the piston in. I assume the internal plunger was fully retracted by then or else I would not have been able to compress the piston. Let's just say I had a buy a lot of brake fluid and leave it at that…
I cleared the codes, got the p-brake reset and took it for a drive for a few miles, stopping frequently and it was OK. All the codes were gone for good, the brake fluid was good, and I could breathe again. The owner had to get to work so I have to go back for the other side.
Now when I go to do the other brake, thanks to your video I know more about the system and how it operates, so I can get through it faster and easier.
Very nicely done, very professional video. Best I've seen on this process. I'm going to go look at your channel and see what else you have on there, you may have gained a subscriber.
Forgot to mention, I initially tried this using my Innova 5610 scanner. I saw it being used in other videos for this purpose, one was even by Innova. However it appears I need to update my scan tool as the option needed was not there. So to people with scan tools, keep them updated!
What if your Camry does not have a key?
Each make/model has different steps on the electronic brakes. Will drive a technician nuts.
Can you please share the procedure for a 10-15 Prius? I have read mixed reviews on some that disconnect the battery and others dont and leave the key away from care and do NOT open driver door. The problem I am having with disconnecting the battery is that It will reset my monitors and I need to then wait for them to complete which I am trying to avoid due to me having to smog the car here in CA soon. I am about to do that service but want to know the correct procedure before I do it and you seem to be the right person to ask. God Bless.
Do you still have to do this even if you deactivated the automatic parking brake?
Your process did not work. Now I have a soft pedal. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for your clear explanation.
This process did not work on my 2019 NX300. I had to use a 9 volt battery on the caliper and help the piston back in(gently). Hard to tell which is positive and negative.
Do you have a bleed brakes video?I need to on my 20244
Does this procedure works for Mitsubishi outlet too or any car with a automatic parking brake?
Awesome vidoe of how to teach toyota car driver to perform their own brake job

This procedure DOESN'T work on UK cars. Ive tried it now about 10 times. All I get is "Automatic mode off"
Is there a different procedure for a UK car?
Hi Can you please let me know how to release the electronic motor break to change for Seat Alhambra pad

2026 Corolla Hybrid. Should I always have the EPB enabled or should I disable it during the winter? Is there a risk of it freezing?
Sir! You are the Yoda of Toyotas! Thank you!
THIS DOESN’T WORK for 2017 RX350
And this works on Hybrids, too? Like the 2025 Sienna?
