Dont even need a drain pan for this car, because the coolant is already gone hahaha
Yes this engines suck but this is not a 1.4 lt or a 2016 check your inf
This is the same engine we have the Uk for the 1.4T the torque spec is 8nm. Thank you for this video it’s awesome.
Put a Clean wrag in Turbo keep Things out like debris Broken pieces of Plastic Nuts Bolts Clamps plastic is non metallic can't get it with Magnet and can't see down turbo if something dropped down.
After a major struggle I just replaced the water pump on my Chevy Trax and can't get the thermostat housing back on. I wasn't sure about that pop out clamp or how easy this is to get off. I totally hate the design of this sideways engine and how tight everything is. Oriley's Auto Parts shows the new water pump to come with a thermostat housing gasket, but that is a lie. It's an extra $23 dollars. Check the box and what is in there. Never rely on the pics. It did come with a metal gasket vs a paper one.
If my heat works can my thermostat still be bad ?
You did great man showed everything you needed to see and explained it well not many people make videos on vehicles like this and I congratulate you on that
What causes the pressure to build to an extent that the hoses burst
Thermostat housing is "dirt cheap"? Well it's 2026 but $90 is not cheap at all to me!
Thank you it helped
Why tf would the engineer decide to use torx bolts

Just done this job with pretty basic tools. I didnt drain anything from the petcock, just had about 2litres of coolant come down into a big tray under the car when i pulled the thermostat. He's right about that air hose, its extremely brittle. Be patient when working it off. Also as others have said, take the 3 bolts from the thermostat, then its easy (still fiddly) to get at the bottom coolant hose with pliers. Its a pretty fiddly wee job but shouldnt take more than an hour all in if you are handy with tools.
Also as a sidenote, i tested resistance across the thermostat and it was still 15 or so Ohms, same as the new one I put on, so dont assume the thermostat is working correctly just because you get a good resistance. My problme was my thermostat was stuck open, giving me a P0128 code and ut would turn off the AC due to "high engine temp" after 10 mins of driving. It's currently 2 degrees celcius here so the coolant gauge would only slightly go up if you were really utting the foot down at the start of the drive. Then ECU must go into default 'protect the engine' mode if the time exceeds for making temperature.

It is nice knowing where your going on them repaires
About to buy the aluminum version of this since it's just as cheap as the plastic one.
I have had 3 reservoirs go bad.
