2020+ Subaru Outback Cargo Net Install

2020+ Subaru Outback Cargo Net Install

How to install the OEM Cargo Net for a 2020+ (Gen6) Subaru Outback. This is part #F551SAN000, which goes for about $35 from online parts websites. Inexpensive and useful, though I end up always taking mine out when the dogs are in the back. (expand for more)

I know it’s annoying but one little click to “subscribe” supports small channels like me so much. I make lots of other Subaru content; thanks so much for watching.

1:55 – Skips the installation and goes straight to the function of the net.

the rubberized insert keeps pulling out. What can be done to fix this?

There are hooks back there already

Great job on this video. I bought a new 2023 and this saved me a trip to the dealer. Well done.

Thanks for posting. When I picked up my cargo net from my dealer. The parts guys printed the instructions that had the template.

Hello, Thanks so much for the video, do you know where to get the template. Thanks

Thanks for posting this. Just got my cargo net delivered today and of course no instructions or templates. Thanks so much for taking the time to help !!

Hi anybody have a template that we can download?

Thanks

Doug Friede says:

Thanks for posting this video. It was very helpful for me, and I just installed the cargo net on my 22 Outback today.

Tom Elliott says:

My dad has the 2021 outback and bought the cargo net. He wasn't going to start drilling holes in a brand new car so he put the net away. Until I found your video. Long story short, he now has a cargo net perfectly installed thanks to your video. Simple, short very clear directions. Thank you for your help.

GRVTYRTST says:

Excellent help. Installed with no problem. Thanks for providing the template.

Tony Ochoa says:

Thank you. Sad Subaru parts dept didn’t let me know. Excellent links.

Vicki McDonald says:

Could you give me a part number for just the hardware? One side of mine fell out and I need that rubber grommet for my 2015 Outback. This video was so helpful, thank you so much!!!

Scott Sandifer says:

Thank you for this.
Received my net today, no instructions, and I hadn't realize I had to drill holes myself.
Confused, I turned to google.
5 minutes after seeing this, the net's installed in my 2014 Forester, ready to go.
(For us older models, the template doesn't work, but they have little dots molded in the plastic where we're supposed to drill.)

Joel Martinez says:

Thanks for posting this! Same issue as others not receiving the installation instructions but this made it a breeze!

Ian Fontaine says:

Thank you for posting this! I’m looking at a ‘21 w/o the rear cargo net and have never had an OB that didn’t have the cargo net pre installed. This gives me confidence that an idiot like myself can do it. One question though….
Why the two different drill sizes? Why not just straight to the larger size and use only one drill bit?

cgrsworld says:

Thank you for posting this!!

Eric Orary says:

I am very surprised Subaru would not already have the hooks to attach the cargo net.

Jeff Bigham says:

Thanks so much! I ordered the net.. it came with the knobs to add, but not the instructions. You including the link to them was fantastic. Greatly appreciated!

Tin Nguyen says:

Thank you for the link.

Ed Thilenius says:

Great tip. Thank you! It worked like a charm.

Zachary Mance says:

Great video! Do you know how I might be able to find the cutout template online?

Peter Spenard says:

Exactly what I was looking for. Got an 2020 Onyx the other day and figured out the same setup but wasn't sure if it was right. Thanks for the quick tutorial!!
