Nate Miller says:

I was a little surprised, mine was a 19mm on a 3.4 engine, it didn’t even
tighten to a snug fit; it basically just stopped tightening so I stopped.

Nate Miller says:

How would you clean the connection if corroded? My temp gauge needle will
move back and forth very rapidly sometimes and I need to check it.

richpin06a says:

Ruby Adame, I find using a stethoscope the easiest way to find sounds.

Kevin Gumina says:

Just replaced this cuz of several reason, one my car took forever to warm
up, and would run ruff when cold and the heater not blowing hot enough
air, if seemed to fix all of issues and the car even warms up alot faster
it seems, great video ..and yes mine was cracked, it probably was the
original sensor and I have 117k on my Saturn SW1 bought it brand new in
1997 and has been a good car for me so far, hoping to get more years out of
it until I can afford to buy a new car!! lol.. thanks for the video rich!
big help.

Dan OConnor says:

Okay, then can you tell me about how long the end of the sensor is that
goes into the head, not counting threads? The one that is in there now has
approximately 1/4 inch of actual sensor that is in the head. Every new one
that I have purchased or looked at is at least 1/2 in. of sensor.

Robin18us says:

I own a 95 SL which I purchased new in April 94. The temperature gauge goes
half way when the outside temperature is warm. When it gets cool outside,
my gauge only goes to the quarter mark. I once had the thermostat replaced,
but it was still the same. Is this my problem, them Temperature Sensor?
Thanks

shawngulledge says:

you don’t know how you are really saving my ass in repair bills, I own a
1997 Saturn SL2 and mechanics are charging me crazy prices to fix it. Your
videos are helping me out alot

Allen Griebel says:

Great job. My 1996 saturn SC2 with only 70k miles on it had this problem.
I also used your video to replace the shifter bushing as well. Keep up the
good work.

Andres Sosa says:

hello Rich, do you know where the temp needle should be at when running
normal? I changed the ects and it seems the temp is now goinjg towards the
middle of the gauge. Before I changed the ects it was most of the time by
the quarter mark…. can you tell me if it is normal now? The fan does kick
in just as it passes the middle mark.

lawrence Orlando says:

hey richpin ive got a 93 sc1 with a manual transmission. it barely idles,
and cant give it more than a quarter throttle until 2500 rpm and it stalls
out, now once I ease the rpm’s up the injector stops spraying?? I can
unhook the injector connector and it doesn’t effect how much gas it
regulates and it will stay running how it was before
any ideas?

Dan OConnor says:

I was suspecting my coolant temp. sensor bad on my 98 SC1 so I went and got
one from AZ, upon removing the one in the car, it appears to have been
replaced. The replacement one was longer than the one removed. Tried to
put it in any way and ended up stripping the threads on the new one. I got
it in about two turns and it got hard to turn, felt like it had bottomed
out. Do you know if there is anything to bottom out against?

sk8rchik13ny says:

As I know SL’s and had mine for over 7 yrs, I still refer to your vids
including this one, on how to do something. Love that you tell me up front
what tools and size I need. Takes the guesswork out of it. Took a whole 3
minutes to change my sensor. Thanks!

Ruby Adame says:

how do I find the hissing nose..I dont kno were to start

Jocelyn Alarie says:

Thank Rich. I found your video pretty well explained. I had to replace ects
on my Saturn SC1 and your video was great. Thank

Jose Espinoza says:

tengo una dodge ram 1500 le cambie el thermostato porque no funcionaba la
califaccion a hora funciona pero la califaccion es bien minima que mas
puedo hacer

richpin06a says:

I do have a video “Saturn s-series Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
Connector Replacement”

Slindeee says:

Also when I took my sensor out, a lot of coolant was coming out and I
wasn’t sure if it all could come out or should I drain it. Ideas?

Slindeee says:

Hey I am replacing my sensor then as you were talking about green on the
connector and I’m pretty sure that mine has some around it. Do you have a
video on you replacing the connector?

versophil says:

Hi RichPin. I have been using your videos for a couple of months trying to
find the problem of why my Saturn has been running at a high idle (IAC
sensor, tps, thermostat, o2 sensors to name a few). This morning I did the
ects and like magic the problem was solved. The old sensor had a crack in
it. I am very thankful for people with knowledge such as your self. Please
keep making great vidoes. You are a credit to the world! Thanks again

richpin06a says:

Thank you my friend.

versophil says:

richpin videos are the best! This is a righteous dude!

slackersteve2004 says:

2003 Saturn s-series, the 2nd dairy fan stays stuck on. change the coolant
sensor and keeps failing..any help would be much appreciated thanks

niceuser1234 says:

no authentic method i know. It feels too hot fans keep running more than
normal.

niceuser1234 says:

hey, I recently bought a car which apparently seems run hot but temperature
gauge never pass the ideal/normal temp position. Even when i had low
coolant. Is it possible dealer had tempered with temperature gauge or
something?

richpin06a says:

How are you gauging that the car is running hot.

J Pidel says:

I have a 2000 Saturn Series that runs hot when sitting in traffic yet when
the AC is running, runs cool. The engine light is on. Do you know what this
could be? I am not sure the fan is turning on when the AC is off.

Marcos Rios says:

Yep, I replaced this sensor and now my car starts after driving it for only
a short while, before I had to floor the gas pedal for it to run.

Marcos Rios says:

My 1996 SL1 did the same thing, I was stuck in traffic all lanes closed and
my temp Gage read zero, but my car started to overheat and the fan never
came on. Finally after my car boiled over, traffic started moving and I was
able to move and the air stated passing through the radiator and finally my
temp warning light came on, lol. kind late. And nope the fan never came on.

richpin06a says:

The computer uses the readings from the coolant temp sensor to inject the
right amount of fuel and to turn the cooling fan on at the right time.

Jim Robert says:

My temp gauge shows the engine as cold all the time, and the engine is
overheating (just started doing it). I think it might be the coolant temp
sensor. I have a 2002, what does the sensor control?

Ferret says:

Why do people thumb things like this video down? Geeze people…don’t be a
turd. This guy did this out of sheer kindness.

richpin06a says:

It might be a good idea to start with a good cleaning of the throttle body
and IAC.

Dtrain9262 says:

My 2000 sl1 stalls when i come to a stop. It only happens when its hot.
Would the ECTS be my problem?

austinalba says:

I have been told that replacing the ECTS is the first thing I should do to
try to correct my SL1’s high idle rev. It looks pretty simple here and a
new one is very inexpensive. Is that about right ? ( Mine is the original
with the black plastic outer shell.)

richpin06a says:

I think my mother told me ounce you can’t please all the people all the
time but you can please some of the people some of the time.

SmokinTyres26 says:

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Really helped me out!

richpin06a says:

The 00-02 sl1 had intake manifold gasket issues have you ruled this out.

Blake E says:

I’m going to pick up a new sensor today and give it a shot! Thanks!

richpin06a says:

If you can get your hands on a scan tool with live data you can check the
actual temp.If the temp reading looks good on the tool then there is a good
chance that the gauge is faulty.

richpin06a says:

How is the temp gauge reading.Possible throttle position sensor problem.

junechris says:

Actually yes, courtesy of one of your vids for guidance thank you by the
way. It turns out it finally threw a code for the O2 sensor and I’ve
replaced it and it’s doing better now. Now I can upgrade my intake and
throttle body. The s series are good cars, kinda a shame GM ruined a good
thing. Were u a saturn technician in the past?

jose silva says:

What happens if that part brakes off and it’s all loose

richpin06a says:

I will do that, glad it turned out well.

richpin06a says:

When doing this swap you have to drill and tap a new hole in the head or
water outlet for a single wire sensor. When the clutch hydraulics fail it is
best to replace it as a whole unit which is the way they are sold.

Doug Eisenstark says:

thanks, no one has mentioned the issue of two sensors including the manuals
I have.

richpin06a says:

If it is not a vacuum leak then i would be looking at the sensors with a
scan tool to see what the real time data looks like.Without checking the
computer data i would only be guessing.
