Porsche Cayenne Front Upper & Lower Control Arm Replacement DIY (2003-2010 Porsche 955/957)

Porsche Cayenne Front Upper & Lower Control Arm Replacement DIY (2003-2010 Porsche 955/957)

►The front control arms on the first-generation Cayenne, Q7, and Touareg control all of the verticle movement in the front suspension. Though the upper and lower arms are different shapes, both use a standard rubber bushing at their inner pivots and a ball joint where they meet the knuckle. Over time, regular use will degrade the ball joints and bushings beyond their point of useability as the road force wears them out. Worn bushings and ball joints will leave your SUV with a vague steering feel, reduced comfort and agility, and likely clunky noises. Replacing the control arms is the best way to solve that issue.

Typically, the control arms on these SUVs should last around 70-80,000-miles. However, the bushings can wear even faster if your vehicle sees any off-road use or extended use in a city environment. From potholes to rock obstacles, none are kind on suspension bushings.

We sell a few different brands of control arms for the Cayenne and its VAG siblings, and today we’re installing the products from Meyle on our Yippie Cayenne project. This Cayenne desperately needs some control arm love after driving deep into the Colorado wilderness only to be dragged out with a deflated front suspension. Follow along as Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro’s Professional DIY’er, tackles the front upper and lower control arm replacement on this 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

Amazing video! I love it!

Mark Briton-Jones says:

Quality “how-to” video, well done. I definitely would not use the pickle fork but each to their own there. I’m buying a 2007 to rebuild and bring it back to its former glory. I appreciate people like you taking the time to produce something like this.

I also can’t endorse enough to people doing their own work to use the paint marker on all bolts, nuts. Great confidence when you routinely check and see nothing has moved.

Fantastic tutorial!! So concise. Great filming and well put together. Definitely a job I feel I can comfortably do myself now

Matt Spangler says:

I am curious if you plan to replace the rear control arms, to get full advantage of the new parts up front.

Matt Spangler says:

This is the best DIY video I have seen for this repair. I have a 2004 Turbo with hydraulic bushings … unlike the Turbo S with solid bushings. I'm guessing the Audio LCA you are using are going to be the best value/performance option.

Adrian Green says:

Hey!!! What is the front skid plate and bumper of this truck? FYI, I just did this service. It's a bit more tender when you don't have a professional lift. That be said, a little bit of crawling around in tight places and muscle will get the job done. Thanks for this video!
