Won’t the carb cleaner break down the engine oil?

I have a 1996 Ford F-150 XLT, I have a starting problems sometimes, it
sounds like it turns over then eventually floods, sometimes it starts right
up… Also my check engine light is on and my mechanic said its probally a
faulty sensor, any opions?

Hussam Alajati says:

@myndhedd wow WD-40? ouch! That’s not a cleaner, and will probably make the
problem even worse. You need to use carburetor cleaner or sometimes they
call it throttle body cleaner. Doing this when the engine is not cool or
when the car is running can cause fire. It is better to do this process
when the engine is completely cool and the car is not running.

Brohdaw K says:

Dont use Carborator cleaner…use throttle body cleaner!!!

I have a question. I have a 2009 dodge journey that has been nothing but a
nightmare since i bought it. My newest problem is it stalls when idling and
stalls when coming to a stop for lights and ect. Dealer told me its
throwing codes for engine misfire, P0017 for cam/crank shaft misalignment
position bank 1. all that fun stuff. I just had cam and crank sensors
replaced, spark plugs are all new. (4cyl VVT ) oil change, new air filter.
yet still stalls, Is the IAC the most likely cause?

Dominique J says:

I took my after market air intake off and theres a mesh plate in the way of
where the throttle is. The mesh doesnt look removable. What should I do?

my “mechanic” friend changed my oil and after i left my engine light came
on so i went back it came back as being the idle sensor so he went into the
throttle body and sprayed it with carborater cleaner in pushed the valve
back with a screw driver to clean it now its idling high and i didnt do
that before he touched it ..so why is it happening? and what can i do to
fix it? 2003 nissan sentra ser 2.5L

greatautohelp says:

@TutorialTipCom -WD-40 ? Where do you see that? Look closer. It is a small
red can of Carb cleaner from M.O.C. industries.

Michael Tondalo says:

awesome tutorial and nice voice you sound sexy bro

ibanezkid07 says:

would opening the throttle up let fuel in?

greatautohelp says:

@ibanezkid07 No. Nofuel flowson a fuel injected engine unless it is running.

Kiddro22 says:

DON’T TOUCH NOTHING! JUST TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE MECHANIC…LOL. WD-40….WTF!

greatautohelp says:

The cleaner would not get into the oil, unles you empty the entire can into
the engine. It does not take much spray to do this repair.

@arniebarb123 2003 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R 2.5L 2500cc L4 FI [QR25DE] DOHC 1)
Your sensor might’ve been on the verge of failure. 2) Your mechanic sprayed
an electrical connection causing it to fault. 3) Your throttle body was
scored. 3) The engine needed to relearn idle…I hope it was this one. If
the year and model listed above is yours, your engine might be on watch.
Search the following below and read the section for the QR25DE engine. WIKI

myndhedd says:

Would WD-40 be a completely terrible idea instead of the cleaner mentioned
here?

azura13liss says:

reset your ECU. do this by pulling the ECU fuse. your engine needs to
relearn idle.

I have an h3 hummer i ahd a problem of stalling i first i found oil leaking
on spark plugs the machanic told me to bring valves rubber covers to stop
leaking he also cleaned injectors and throttle he changed spark plugs the
car was good only for 3 weeks so i took it to computer check the machanic
told me your camshaft timing gear wheels must be thr cause what is your
advice

greatautohelp says:

@Chickness1 -Most shops would charge 1/2 – 1.0 hours labor. So, a repair
shop that charges $75 per hour, would cost you at most $75.

Chickness1 says:

This def sounds like what my car needs. I suppose it’s not an easy fix if
you really don’t know what your doing? What would be the aprox charge for
this?

brostyle13 says:

you should use a throttle body specific cleaner most throttle plates have a
special coating on them that you dont want to remove or damage

Bill Thompson says:

FYI: this is also good advice/fix for a sticking throttle plate.

danducati says:

This video was awesome! I am not mechanically inclined, but felt
comfortable enough to try doing this after watching the video – and it
worked like a charm! My only other comment is that I could not locate the
throttle to open up the valve, So I was able to push & hold it open with
one hand while using the other to clean in there. Worked like a charm, so
thank you for this!

eezerik says:

@prmass1 shouldn’t you take out the MAF first since the throttle cleaner
could damage the sensor?

greatautohelp says:

@queculo0 There is a snap ring that holds that screen in place. Remove it,
then carefully remove the screen.
