OH THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF GETTING A STEERING TIE ROD ON MY MERCURY 15 PRO-KICKER OUTBOARD MOTOR CONNECTED TO MY SEA STAR HYDRAULIC STEERING ON MY MAIN 250 SUZUKI.
I GUESS, I WAS ASKING FOR SOMETHING VERY UNCONVENTIONAL (????) BECAUSE THERE’S NO REAL WAY OF JUST ‘HOOKING UP” ANY STEERING ROD TO THE MERC 15, WITHOUT ”CREATIVE ENGINEERING” aka: MACGYVERING IT❗❗❗
WHY DID MERCURY MAKE THIS SO NO STEERING ARM WILL MOUNT, WHILE KEEPING TILLER???????? BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE DOING ”YOU” A FAVOR, WITH THE REDESIGNED TILLER STEERING ARM. THATS WHY❗👎
CAN’T SAY THAT THERE’S JUST A EZ WAY TO TAKE ””’ANY”” PANTHER TIE BAR SYSTEM, AND JUST HOOK IT UP. EVEN PANTHER HAS NO CLUE, I ASKED THEM!

That was pretty clean when it got done nice job.
Wanted to drop a thank you for your video. I took some parts from it for my DIY install. As a note, the new SeaStar HC5346-3 are direct compatible with the panther brackets. I made a post on walleye central for my install for those not wanting to drill out their tiller handle. "Mercury 9.9 tiller Tie-bar"
Awesome vid and info, Macgyverism rules, lol. I have a 9.9 ProKicker Merc coming and this is so helpful prior to it's arrival, thanks Dave.
Hi Dave, thanks for the video. Doing a similar install. Do you recall what size pull ring pin you needed (length and diameter)?
Very well described video that came close to answering a question I have ( not over thinking Capt ! … ha ). Please bear with me as I tell you about my set up …… I'm retired and building my last boat to travel the states with so , first of all I downrigger fish so of course my time is spent at the aft of the boat. I have a 1988 Yamaha 115 horse and if your familiar with those they have a huge cowling . My kicker is a 1990 Yamaha 9.9. I built a 22" set back outboard extension and a 6" Bobs Machine Shop hydraulic jack plate . My extension transom is 51" wide so that leaves me with 16" for my kicker so if I use a tie bar I will have enough room for my kicker . If no tie bar I have to use the Panther swim platform bracket and do not want to spend 300.00 for that is I can avoid it. I also installed a hydraulic steering system.
Finally here is my question….. With the tie bar and the main hydraulic system can I steer from the rear with my kicker tiller handle and still move both motors from the rear. I do not know if the hydraulic system is loose enough to let it free up the main motor?.
I love that cover I may be stealing the idea sorry
Outstanding ! exactly what i was looking for well done
You already have a Suzuki as your main motor why not get a Suzuki kicker???…
