I read a lot of negative comments online about the gearbox of the LEGO Technic 42110 Land Rover Defender, lot of people saying that it does not work at all for them in higher gears, all their get is a terrible cracking noise and the fake engine is not running. I explain in this video what can be the root cause and how can it be fixed easily.

Still not fixed, any help?
This helped me to fix similar issue in my moc. Thanks for this video
I make the same in your Video and nothing changed
That thing with the + and – on it, if you scroll it all the way to the – and put it in drive, it cracks, but then when you scroll it however many times you want to in the + direction it doesnt crack, im not sure if its for everyone, or just me,
I made the Defender and looked carefully at all gears and orientation of the U-joints. No cracking noise when moving the Defender slow. At higher speed there is still cracking noise, despite I checked all your advised checkpoints.
I'm an 11 year old kid from Russia, but you've got a cool car like you.
Looks like LEGO have fixed the manual now. I'm up to this step on my Defender and both of the joints are in the correct position.
I did what you said and it didnt work
I probably need to rebuild mine. The gearbox has a bit of rolling lag before it moves the pistons and there is generally just some slop in the gears. Going back over the pages multiple times, everything looks to be in the right place. And I have no clicking or missing. The gearbox just isn't that impressive I guess…

Thank you‼️
What a pal you are‼️
Yeah I don’t understand how this made it to production tbh. I got mine a couple of days ago and I went into it knowing there was this issue. I made sure to follow each step very carefully and by the time I had completed all of the gearing… click, click, click. Yup. In my case I hear the clicking sometimes in 2nd gear, most of the time on 3rd gear and all of the time in 4th gear. My issue is that there isn’t enough torque coming through to the fake engine on the higher gears. I did everything to ensure that there was as little friction between the gears and the pieces they’re up against, leaving little spaces while building. As an experienced lego technic builder I am disappointed and dissatisfied that I wasn’t able to solve this issue tonight. (Like seriously it shouldn’t take more than an hour max). I’ll look at it tomorrow at some point, but if I can’t find a solution to reduce friction between the gears, I’m just going to say f*ck it and finish the build. If anyone has any insight as to what my issue is that would be much appreciated.
Hi , whats motors and box are you using on the wheel so I can get this to show the movement
Still getting a cracking noise even though the 2 rods are aligned…any fixes?
My U-joints are correct but I still feel some mechanical resistance in the model. In the higher gears that resistance acts like a pullback motor until a gear slips
