AridersLife says:

I dont have any of these focus issues, strange as i wonder if its just a
spontaneous manufacturing fault.

Fearlessfront says:

Hahahaha! I love it! 0:30 “You won’t have to take the camera apart” 1:38 he
starts taking it apart… lol!

6Foot4Honda says:

I had a out of Focus GoPro Hero3+ I decided to contact GoPro and see what
they would do for me. my whole story started on 11/21/13 two days later was
contacted my GoPro and asked to send in some sample pix. after looking at a
video I had posted and some pictures I was giving a RA to return my Camera
to GoPro. They sent me a Packing slip and Free Return postage slip all I
had to do was box up the unit and take it to the local fedex shop. My
camera was dropped off at fedex the Saturday before Thanksgiving. 11/23/13
I figured I would not here anything from them until after the Thanksgiving
weekend as Im sure they take a few days off. So Monday 12/2/13 I contacted
them using my case # on there website around 9:30am and got a email back
around noon the same day saying that my new camera was being shipped out
the next day. 12/3/13 good new my camera arrived on 12/4/13 and works
fantastic no focus issues. I was even sent a 20% off coupon for there
online store for Accessories…. Great Job GoPro….

StoriesFromTheMouth says:

Is there a way to test the focus using a ruler?

Sakis Pallas says:

it didnt work for me ,
the lens didnt move at all , and i kinda scratch the plastic ring around
the lens.
i also use a hair dryer but still didnt move .
any suggestions?

Rauf Zero says:

Any befor/after test shots?

Daniel Allen says:

Question: Since you can turn the lens, could you remove the entire lens
without a full tear down?
I’ve taken the lens off 3 GoPro3s, all required a full tear down.

Paul C. Reilly says:

Agreed. You should show an example of picture clarity before the mod and
after.

Tallguysd says:

Go to there website and open a case number they should email you back and
require a serial# of your camera and a copy of your sales recipt. My
exchange only took about two weeks

Hooverdarnit says:

HELP!

I need some info.

How many millimeters is the lens housing from the edge of the camera
housing.

How many millimeters from the top and how many millimeters from the side.

Need this info ASAP.

Thanks.

shrimpfarmer says:

I did it and the results are much better than without your mod. Thanks for
posting this up.

Jeff James says:

What about an example?

MrBikeRida says:

I just tried this, Got to turning the lens then It slipped and shit myself
and saw that the side of the lens was being scraped a lot. Might have to
send to gopro to get it done properly to scared lol

adrian19990525 says:

Is it fixed from the factory for the currently built new Hero3+ Black?

AridersLife says:

wow, what a improvement, i looked at where your lens markings are. (
groves) mine was 2.5 to 3mm out. I suspect it might be a manufacture
issue.

Graydon Tranquilla says:

How much heat is required to loosen the glue that prevents the lens from
turning?
After three attempts to turn the lens for better long distance focusing I
dared go no further. I used a pair of vice grips which I don’t think can do
the job and am scared of cracking the lens or lens ring.

curso88 says:

Hello

I need to buy the GoPro HERO 3 Black Edition for my Dji Phantom 2 to make
aerial video projects. This problem affects all GoPro HERO 3+ cameras or is
a puntual problem in some units? What model is it advisable to buy?

Regards

Derek Michaels says:

Can this be done on the Original Black Edition??

Michael MacDonald says:

Modification worked flawlessly. I was wondering why my videos/photos from
my Hero3+ black edition didn’t look as sharp as my Hero2. Once I made this
modification, the differences are quite obvious..

Steen Pedersen says:

Interesting, thanks – but how did you find out? :-)

Calle Mansfeldt says:

do you know if it will change the focus on the near distance after
adjusting the lins like in this video?

Pappspecht1977 says:

Hi, this also works on the plus Silver Edition?

Ryan Andrews says:

Can this be done on just the Hero 3 Plus or any of the other Hero 3
cameras?

Ryan Conroy says:

This sounds almost too easy to be true! Going to give it a go tomorrow,
thanks for the video.

Bruno Fog says:

… you don’t turn. it look same!

Jean-Alexandre Beaudet says:

I just did it and side by side shots from my 3 Black and 3+ Black now seem
to finally share the same focus.

PaulM708 says:

Why no before and after shots to compare the too. I would like to see the
difference before i tried this myself.

UncleTags says:

Perfect, just what I needed after finding ‘focusing issues’ with my 3+

One day GoPro will do some field testing of their own before releasing
products to consumers!!!

Thanks for the easy fix, and for sharing….

Bill Malec says:

How about doing this with the camera on and viewing the focus change on
your phone, etc?

pianoplayer888 says:

When I attempted turning the lens, I found that the plastic I had to grip
with the pliers (not the two outer rings I’d already removed) gave way
before the adhesive did, resulting in shredding all around it. I eventually
got it to turn, but I don’t see how you managed to keep the plastic in such
good shape, or how you got it to turn so easily.
