2003 GMC Envoy – Pt10 engine knock – vvt solenoid repair diy trailblazer raineer 4.2l 4×4 suv

I may have found a really easy way to diagnose the deep engine knock as a bad cam timing solenoid!

2003 GMC Envoy SUV 4×4 4.2L auto, similar to chevy trailblazer and buick raineer of same model year ranges.

J. J. says:

Why is oil in the connector an indication that the vvt selenoid is bad?

bossgoon115 says:

The valve that you capped off goes to the back of the motor then to the passenger side and connects to the heater control valve behind the coolant reservoir

Uncle 'DeeJayy BHIsraelite says:

that knocking is bad gas you need plus and add marvel mystery to the oil and gas tank. also don't use seafoam in oil it will damage your cat converter.

Jason Brown says:

towards the end of the video you moved the yellow cap down to the lower position, do you know what nipple thing is called? or what it does? one of my trailblazer has nothing on it, the other had s split rubber cap

REBELS PROPHET says:

Will someone tell me please IF a 2005 GMC Envoy 4 Wheel Drive In line 6 Cyl. will fit mount for mount/plug for plug [wiring] in a 2003 GMC Envoy? [iMnd you the oil pan has to be changed as the 4 wheel drive axle goes thru the oil pan.]

Fernando Rosa Jr. says:

Excellent trouble shooting…hey i would check the connecting rod bearings by bringing each piston just past tdc. Then with a long extension or something push down on the pistons, if there is a clunk well its a rod bearing!

cannabine says:

The trailblazer and the gmc Envoy have a really bad issue with there oil pumps failing you will not get a check engine or service engine soon light when your oil pump is failing its not delivering the right amount of oil to the pistons/camshaft and it will pretty much just kill the engine slowly leaving you to heir the deep rod bearing knock/spun camshaft down the road chevy is stupid putting in cheep parts to save a buck so when you get inline 6 chevy engine replace your oil pump then your truck will last forever.i have a 2004 Trailblazer and i got the oil pump replaced the shop i took it to told me i was really luck because my oil pump was pretty much working at a 25% it was not delivering oil to the top of the engine so when i got my new oil pump in there was no longer a ticking noise coming from the lifters on top of the engine bay

Jimmy S says:

I know these engines have plastic timing chain guides. They are also famous for burning valves. I got a 2002 Bravada 4×4 with no compression in cylinder 5. The rest are fine. But the pisser is the damned 4×4 the front differential is bolted to the oil pan and one of the axles goes through the oil pan. You have to drop the oil pan to remove a single 10mm bolt for the oil pickup tube just to remove the timing cover. Which means you need to drop the rack and pinion too just for a single bolt holding you up. This engine I got this issue with happened just before 140k miles.

Björn Odinson says:

I just replaced and engine in my trailblazer it locked up due to bearing but if it if an inturnal knock it would have a ring to it dam aluminum blocks have a weird knock but the used engine I just bought has close to that same sound was looking into it before I dug in to find the problem waiting for warm weather really hate the cold

Skylar Reed says:

I have a 2002 gmc envoy, making a awful noise, we've replaced everything from the belt tensioner, to the water pump. we originally thought it was the throttle body going out, but starting to think it might be something more serious.. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

Juan Saenz says:

hi iam having trouble with my trailblazer 2003 i hear a deep knock but when i get to speeds 60 or so its dosnt really knock

James IV says:

if there oil in vvt, i would suggest changing the wire harness/ pig tail connection along with changing vvt.

Melva King says:

Sky High says:

MY 04 Trailblazer has been a nightmare, I have replaced or repaired so many items on this SUV I could have paid cash for a new car. I was assured by the previous owner that the SUV was in great shape. It needed a windshield. Thought I was getting a great buy, but people do lie. I finally found out that her son had driven the car off into a creek and it set there for days until it was removed. The front of the car must have been under water for a long time. Every electrical component has bee either replace or about to be replaced. Every day my wife comes home and tells me the "service engine soon light" is on. Read the codes and it is always an electronic item never ending problems.
