Inside Ferrari’s ULTIMATE Restoration Workshop

In a quiet corner of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy, a small, dedicated team document the past and offers classics a future. This is Ferrari’s Classiche department – and it’s where the world’s most expensive cars come when they need a spruce up.

But it’s only a relatively recent development, as under founder Enzo, Ferrari was a race team first, always focused on what’s next, not what’s past.

It was only in 2004 that CEO Jean Todt spotted the value in the back catalogue and realised that if others were restoring and rebuilding Ferraris, the firm itself should have a stake in that. The Classiche (that second one is a hard C) unit got going two years later.

Two decades on, we’ve been for a poke around, to see just how diverse and adept Classiche has become. Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, is your guide…

It must have been such an honour to have been hosted there among towering historical and artistic Ferrari artefacts, in the documents and the cars and their parts. A unique living museum.
