This is a common problem with the Buick Park Ave. Easy fix with a strong magnet. In this video the magnet I used was not really strong enough that is why you see the edit and the tap tap tap sound at the end. It took me about 5 minutes because I just needed a little more magnet power. I recommend buying a 1″ x 1″ x 1/4″ Neo magnet I will leave a link where to buy. They run about 10.00 but it is strong enough to swing the gauge very easy. A great tool to have. The cause of this is my opinion only. In my case it has done this about 4 times. All 4 times the battery was low. It is battery related and I think the real problem may be the fuel sender. Make sure ignition is turned off before attempting this. You may damage electronics as the magnet is VERY powerful. Use caution and only put as close as needed you should be fine. Thanks for watching!

Thanks bro! I thought my sending unit was bad…pulled the fuel pump and tested the sending unit and it is good. So I tried your trick using a 3 " speaker magnet and voila! You de man!

George Margosian says:

Thank you for the fix. Worked fine. I had just changed my multfunction switch and turned the key on and gas needle pegged itself. Don't know why . Anyway, I did what you suggested and all is good now. Thanks again G. Margosian

Richard Ballard says:

Wow. I haven't tried it. Just got a 98 that has a broken gauge. Just happened across this . Thanks a ton. Know how to tighten up a loose rear view mirror?

Derrius Thornton says:

I have a 02 Buick park ave and my check gauge light is on I know in fact it is my fuel gauge and what it does is jump to full den drop to half an repeat the cycle while I'm driving not quite reading how much gas I really have what should I do?

YaniJiménez says:

will this work for the speedometer?

Rock Drummer says:

OK……..it was my temperature gauge that was the culprit on my '98 PA.  I have a strong retrieving tool with a super magnet.  The best I could do was to get the needle to about the 7:00 o'clock position.  However, being a 19 year old car with a few dings and dents, I am not so picky.  I got a piece of fine wire and drilled a tiny hole under the gauge in the clear plastic lens.  I inserted the wire and maneuvered the needle straight up.  Works perfect!  I had never noticed the needle under the little stop.  I knew it jumped when I turned the switch on, but now I know why.  I think a working temp gauge is more important than a flawless cluster lens.  I put a small decal (USMC) over the hole, and I am good to go.

Braddy's Fun Show says:

Great video!! On my 2001 Century, the gas gauge bounces around full and never goes to empty. I'm sure it's a fuel sending unit. What I want to know is how in the world does this work?!?! This is crazy! My gauge hasn't flipped the other way on me but will this method fix my gauge from bouncing around? I don't see how it would but how does it fix the other issue on the video and several others in the comments? I'm willing to try anything other than taking the gas tank down. Thanks for the video!!

Meera Bakshi says:

Hello Randy, Thanks for your video. My Alero 1999 model had the same problem, the gas gauge needle flipped on the other side of the full tank mark. I had dead battery problem and once I got it started by jump start, first thing I did was to replace the battery as it was anyway 5 years old. I had my car's gas tank full so I did not notice the gauge needle flipped on the other side of the stopper. But after 2-3 days using the car, the needle stayed there only made me look closely and whoa!!!!!!!! there I see a problem, I searched on the you tube if some one has the same issue and if I could get some easy/cheap solution! I found your video. I tried with a rather strong magnet I have at home but it did not work. So I got one even stronger one from LOWEs for $ 2.88 and it worked! Thanks a lot.

Rick Armstrong says:

thank you so much for posting and making this video. It will save me money and I am going to go try this now.

Melissa Teal says:

Levi Jones says:

My park avenue has a tiny hole drilled in the plastic. It's way easier than this. Just stick a needle in the hole and flip it over.

Fernando Fernandez says:

hey it's me again,I did the magnet trick, brought it around but when I turned on the key,it went all the way full but went back immediately to the stop point. ..any ideas? ???

Fernando Fernandez says:

hey does the tank need to be full for it to work??
