Kevin Sonta says:

How long did the job take you? I have to do this to my daily driver and I
was just wondering how long it would take me. I have a 98 Firebird 3.8L
3800.

Mike Tattas says:

i have this engine (series II) and installed the dorman made upper intake
manifold which came with a replacement pcv valve, o-rings, spring and
cap/cover. it is impossible for me to install the pcv as the cover is
extremely hard to depress and then turn to catch properly. are these pcv
valve parts possibly defective or is it normal for this part to be a
difficult install?

budokai100mph says:

really good video, I have a 2005 Chevy Impala 3.8V6 with p0304 misfire I
changed plugs wires injector and checked coils and compression. I had 90
psi on cyl 4 and ranging between 170-200 on the rest of the cyl but I have
no smoke or milky oil so i am thinking I have this same problem. This vid
is really helping me alot thanks for posting this series. If you have any
input about the info i have given it would be very much appreciated. I
bought a whole head gasket kit just in case.

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

@chrislee1000 a 2000 is very similar,, there are some differences but this
video can be used as a basic guideline for your car.

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

the 2001 is very similar, the only difference is in a few of the bolt
locations. It’s not a bad idea to go ahead and replace the valve covers
gaskets while you have everything apart, it will be a lot easier to get to
them at that time.

Mike Tattas says:

thanks for the guidance. the problem was the small o-ring was stopping the
pcv valve from being seated all the way down.

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

@wheezyrhino It’s a few hour job.

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

Hope the job went okay for you, yes It can leak from the back side of the
engine, if the intake is leaking towards the rear, it will puddle up and
leak down the back of the engine.

stiny91 says:

HI! I have watched all the videos and plan on doing the same work. I have a
1996 buick park ave ultra. It is supercharged and it is the 3800 series 2,
so I know there are some differences. My question is, did you replace the
upper intake manifold with a brand new one? If so, where did you buy it?
Thanks so much, I have learned a lot already.

bobbygatton1 says:

This is a great video. I have the same 95 buick that im doing this to
tomorrow. I am leaking coolant from the back passenger corner of the engine
and its really hard to tell if its coming from the intake or maybe even
head gasket. Its really pissing pretty bad and im hopeing its the intake
gaskets. Have you seen it leak coolant like this before from the back side
of the engine? Thanks for any info bro very helpfull.

Daniel Lau says:

Thank you for posting this great video. I have a 2001 Buick LeSabre. Is the
process about the same? Should I replace the valve cover gasket at the same
time?

dark starr says:

Hey I’m in the process of doing this now does the egr tube need to be
replaced as well the only place I can find one is the dealer

spelunkerd says:

This is a very good series, well done.

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

The upper intake manifold is made of plastic for two reasons, (that I know
of). It is less expensive to manufacturer, and it also helps produce a
lower intake air temperature, which increases efficiency and performance of
the engine…. I don’t know for a fact that these are the reasons, but it’s
the only reasoning I can see. You Aussie’s have all the cool cars down
there, I wish Ford would bring us the Falcon that you guys get, that thing
is sweet!

philiphied says:

hey good video but you completely skipped the upper intake manifold torque
sequence and specs. can you post?

Thank you for your video. It was a blessing it saved me a lot of money.

paul saker says:

great job man . i have a biuck regal 3800 1995 it has the same engine and
im planing to do this job . can u tell me plz or write douwn if u plz the
parts that you have changed during this great job ty

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

@stiny91 We have our own website at APDTY.com We got a Dorman Intake
Manifold as we have used them for years and they are awesome quality. We
also ended up replacing all the spark plugs & wires with ACDelco, Also the
TPS (Throttle position sensor) and lower intake manifold gaskets also all
purchased at APDTY.com

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

@darkstarr102 The only reason you would need to replace the EGR tube is if
yours is physically broken, otherwise you should be fine reusing it.

MercMad says:

Why is the upper intake manifold plastic? the Australian version of this
engine has metal upper and lower intake manifolds and never has these
issues. Although it still has the lower intake gaskets fail in exactly the
same manner. It was also rear wheel drive, thankfully 🙂

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

You should drain the coolant before beginning, that will ensure that the
intake manifold is empty when you take it off, and will prevent coolant
from getting into undesirable places (intake runners, lifter valley,
etc…) .

Daniel Lau says:

Thanks for your advice. I have another question. Do I need to drain all the
coolant and motor oil before I start this job? Thanks, Daniel

Auto Parts Direct To You says:

They can be tough, I am going off memory but I think there is an o-ring on
the assembly too? Perhaps the o-ring is getting stuck and needs to be
lubricated. The other thing to check would be to ensure that the PCV valve
is fully seated in the housing.

Scott Eavey says:

This guy is the man!!! I watched all 7 of his videos and I replaced both
upper and lower intake manifold gaskets for less than $200, instead of
$1000 plus. I had no clue how to do this job, but just what the automotive
dealer said what the problem and cost would be. YOU TUBE is the life and
money saver!!! Thank you very very much.
