Nice vid Ryan. I just had my battery replaced at the shop yesterday. For
some reason my Navigation mk4 unit wont communicate either with the CD
changer or the navi DVD unit after the change. Are there any codes who has
to be reset or erased?

only1balto says:

Yes- Need this info as well!

E39Source says:

If I go out there this afternoon, and find what I needed at the dealership
yesterday- I’m going to feel like a complete idiot.

E39Source says:

Yeah, 2.5 years ago. That battery was dated 5/2010.

E39Source says:

I don’t know off the top of my head. Let the dealer supply you with the OEM
part, or search the forums online. You can also check Tire rack, I think
they may do batteries as well.

E39Source says:

The battery doesn’t work? Return it and get another… or check your
alternator to make sure that the battery is being charged.

wickedroman says:

you can do it with tools that r in the trunk btw….

E39Source says:

I agree. 🙂

chopper82p says:

Thats one biggg battery

E39Source says:

Not great, I agree. These cars have too much technology for their own goods
sometimes.

E39Source says:

Not recently. The battery date was May 2010, and it’s been weakening over
the past few weeks. I’ve noticed that even 5 minutes of lights/radio
without engine would make it not start. New battery is very strong, I’ll
probably get another 2-3 years out of this one.

Grant Amacher says:

Thanks! Very Helpful.

drifter247 says:

didnt you put a new battery when you first bought the car 2 years ago

Mark Connelly says:

Hi there, I’ve enjoyed learning some useful tips from your videos – in the
future would you consider making a video on how to properly use a jack and
jack stands on your e39 m5? Thanks for the great videos!

sweetiepillow says:

totally right

Catalina3600 says:

@z0rPunt Agreed! 🙂

E39Source says:

I wish I knew, actually. I’m not sure what to use as the jack point. Maybe
I’ll find out in the future, and make a video! Thanks for watching!

Ugur Ekim says:

Please don’t say stuff like “pretty simple video”. Every video you make is
teaching me how to maintain and fix simple stuff by myself! You save us
allot of money! Video’s you make are very instructed and usefull! Keep on
going, and NEVER STOP!

John Anthony says:

guys Exide and Johnson Controls are the only 2 companies that make
batteries in the US, all others are rebranded from one or the other. i’ve
got a johnson controls battery from autozone…. the warranty on non BMW
batteries will win out everytime…there’s money better spent elsewhere. as
for the failure after 2 years its because these are US batteries while the
OE Varta battery from germany was a completely different caliber of
battery… that one would’ve been worth the $250

Sachin Khanna says:

What type of battery do I need to buy for BMW e39 540i 1997?

goma3 says:

You can get an e39 m5 battery from Advanceautoparts for $179 (Autocraft
Brand). If you combine with their (frequent) $30 off $100 coupons you can
get it for $149. That’s where I got mine 2 years ago, still rock solid.

E39Source says:

Thanks so much for the feedback, many more videos to come!!

z0rPunt says:

Excellent stuff. All videos are very welcome! Keep up the good work 🙂

quocpauo says:

Mine cost $198. So I knew I got a good deal. Could have bought non-OEM
battery for half price but somehow I nthought it will come back to bite me

delanom5 says:

Battery died too soon, do you drive short route?

Dimitri Smith says:

Help I have a 525i e34 and I put this same $250 battery and it doesn’t work
I don’t know what to do

drifter247 says:

I take these batteries dont have a good life span
