I just did this today and thank you for the help. I just wanted to share my
experience for anyone interested. I didn’t like the idea of hanging the
drive from the swim platform so I instead built a quick 2×4 base under the
drive to support the weight. This worked well but getting it lined back up
took some patience. To remove the pins I bought a 5/16 inch x 12 inch Line
Up Punch from Home Depot (about $10.00) and used a 2.5lb sledge hammer. I
cut away the old bellows to give myself more room to work with. Hitting the
pins from the inside caused them to free up with a little penetrating oil.
It did take a bit of pounding to get them far enough out to take the drive
off. I suggest you do not take them all the way out or they will be a pain
to get back in in the right orientation. Thank you again for the video!

Good job 🙂

Jesse Moore says:

Daniel! I used a small sledge hammer and a Pin (that was a spare for an old
bobcat I used to have) Patience and keep beating. Actually, that was the
most difficult part of the task.

Daniel Trak says:

did you have to beat it from inside to out or the other way? and did you
have to turn the drive in order to reach the pins? thank you and sorry for
the inconvenience.

Jesse Moore says:

beat from the inside out and use plenty of penetrating oil. Once it moves
one time, it is only a matter of patience. When it got too far for my big
pin, I used and drive extention to beat it the rest of the way out. And
yes, I turned the drive and did one side at a time. The same going back on.
It is not as hard as it seems once you start.

Dave DavidM says:

Jesse, Thank you very much for taking the time to show me how to do this. I
am going to attempt to do this myself because you showed me how. This will
save me some money over and over because this is supposed to be done every
3 years according to my owners manual. I do not want water to get into my
outdrive and corrode those gears. Thank you sir for sharing your expertise.

Thomas Andersen says:

How hard was it for you to remove it? I’ve been struggling for the past two
days trying to remove mine.

Daniel Trak says:

i just want to know how you got the pins out?
