Where can I find this metal thing to release the boxes?

By chance, looking for what might be the cause of my transmission troubles, I ran into this video. Robert, you saved me $2,000.00. Thank you. Although I'm a computer guy, the TCM being the problem had simply not occurred to me. I had to purchase the removal tool for $30.00, but sure enough, with that tool and some Deoxit 5, the problems have been cured. What a simple fix. Thank you.

Matthew W's Vids says:

Do you know if this tool is needed for a Volvo S-80, 2008? You mentioned the tool is used for "later models" but not sure if the 2008 is in that category or not.

Hi Robert. I have been watching your YouTube channel and working on my 2002 volvo v70 crosscountry. First thank you have have been kind in sharing your knowledge and tips. I have a question if you have time. I was driving the car and it stopped running, Long story short I left a red light I was giving gas and it seemed like the car was running out of fuel or that maybe the transmission was going out. It died in the road. If I started it it would run but when I put it in gear and tried to leave it would die. A man who stopped to help mentioned anti theft mode. I locked all the doors got out used the key to unlock the car and by gosh it started and ran for a long time…. this is where it gets complicated. It died and no matter what I couldnt get it to keep running. So had it towed home to my shop and ran the code reader it came back with bad ECM. I ordered the removal tool sprayed connection cleaner onto the part and per my bosses instruction I swapped it out for one out of our "parts volvo" ( a 2001) Now the code reader is coming up no codes found however the car will not start at all. Any Ideas? Would you order a new ECM? I have tried putting the ECM back into the car that I pulled out of it and when I do I am getting the no codes found message but car will not start. Thank you for taking the time to read my message and hope that you are able to pick your brain and help me out.

thank you for yet another important video that is essential for my life to function.i am trying to trouble shoot the climate control on a 1998 volvo v70 which has a 4 year old compressor that holds freon and the clutch works.i haven't run the AC fpor 3 years because it was, and is broken. last summer added dye to but the freon gauge said it was in the green, meaning it didn't need freon and it would be over filled if i added too much, but the it was still in the green with the dye added. then the cabin fan motor burned out so i replaced it. there is an electrical wire that a rat eat some of the insulation off. it looked like no copper from the wires are touching, or are likely to touch each other. i will try to find my freon filler and double check the freon is still ok, and if so i am wondering how to think of proceeding. i was reading the Haynes service and repair manual for volvo s70, v70 & c70 1996 to 1999 (p to v registration) petrol on page/section 3*5; 9 heating, ventilation and air conditioning general info and precautions, electronic climate control system 13: "the ECU, which is located behind the control panel, incorporates a built-in fault diagnosis facility. A fault is signaled to the driver by the flashing of the 2 warning lights on the control panel for approximately 20 seconds every time the engine is started. 14 should a fault occur, the ECU stores a series of signals (or fault codes) for subsequent read-out via the diagnostic connector in the centre console."
shody writing from my perspective: i have the 20 second flashing lights at engine start-up. now, i would like to read the codes and decode them. i plan on purchasing a Raspberry pi single board computer
https://www.raspberrypi.org/
and this OBD2 Diagnostic Auto USB Interface Cable :
https://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-V2-1-OBDII-OBD2-Diagnostic-Auto-USB-Interface-Cable-Scanner-Code-Readers/263517950801?hash=item3d5ae4d351:g:kPgAAOSwgeBagJsv&autorefresh=true
and download the code reading program from github
https://github.com/
and find out what i need to replace in order to get the climate control working
has anyone done this or have any suggestions? i was also thinking of replacing the orifice, but i assume i need to collect the freon out of the system in order to do this? i guess i'll check for an orifice replacement tutorial. since the outside air temp stopped being displayed a few month ago, i assume that might be a indication of of the climate control ECU gone bad, so perhaps i'll replace that first.

You make it look easy. I took mine out and sprayed with contact cleaner then reinstalled. No more codes or issues since.

hai robert, where is TCM and ECM located on 2003 volvo s40 ?

John O says:

Often electrical problems on large commercial aircraft (Boeing 747's ect.) are solved by removing, cleaning and refitting (or re-racking) the various computer boxes.
With all the dust, salt & general crap our cars are put through it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove and clean the contacts on these control boxes from time to time.
Use a good contact or switch cleaner not WD-40!

Hi, Robert. I have a question about my VOLVO 850 b5252s (1995 10v 144hp). Revs drops down to 600rpm while idling and on exhaust sounds like one cylinder won't work. I replaced all spark plugs, hi-voltage wires, distributor cap, fuel pressure regulator and O2 sensor. Still the same… Then I thought that my catalytic converter is clogged. I removed my O2 sensor and it started to work right. Then I removed CAT and it was running great until I plugged in a new O2 sensor. While sensor is connected idle rpm drops down to 600 and when O2 isn't connected engine runs great. May it be fault of leaking exhaust manifold or smthng else?

Rob, I have a 2004 xc70 I want to replace all struts on, can u direct me to one of your videos that would help me?

RoyalKingA73 says:

Hey, Robert. I enjoy all your videos. There very detailed and very easy to understand. Thank you very much for that. I am curious though, can you make some videos on working on older American cars from the 1990's? If u do that, that'd be awesome. Your skills is what a lot of people need nowadays especially for folk who can't afford these brand new, expensive vehicles like me. I'm glad your doing well and I thank you for your videos and I look forward for more of them.
