Anti sway bar replacement, front and rear, Volvo 850, S70, V70, etc. – VOTD

Anti sway bar replacement: 60 minutes each ($40 / $300 / $850)

Rear bar torque specs:
– Drivers side small bolt, 37 ft lbs plus 90 degrees
– Drivers side large bolt, 48 ft lbs plus 90 degrees
– Passenger side dual bolts, 37 ft lbs
– Drivers side link mount, 37 ft lbs plus 120 degrees
Front torque specs:
– Sway bar brackets, 37 ft lbs
– End links, 44 ft lbs
– Large sub frame bolts, 77 ft lbs plus 120 degrees
– Tri sub frame plate bolts, 37 ft lbs
– Steering rack bolts, 37 ft lbs

In this video I installed a pair of iPd anti sway bars. Took about an hour per bar. You should get an alignment after doing the job. That would add about $125 to the $40 cost of junkyard bars.

The process will be different for the rear on AWD vehicles.

I have a Volvo 850 GLT from 96, It didnt pass the inspection because it was leaking from the RMS and they also told me that my sway bar links are bad ;(, Got that car for free last month.

I replaced the seal last week ago.(I hope I never have do it again)

Hey Robert congrats! on your new sway bar installation. Your car isn't an 850 without it. lo. Also just like you I installed the obx racing rear sway bar inside the (top) trunk rear strut mounts and also for the front (upper) strut mounts. Also installed ipd anti sway in the bottom rear and front with koni orange both front and rear. Robert let me tell you this thing handles!!!. Feels German tight.

@ blast @robert. I am hoping for a long term follow up about the squeaks. I have read about people using the bushing brackets with the zerks, or drilling and placing zerks. Then, drilling into the bushing and cutting groves on the bar side of the bushing. With the expectation that regular, well distributed lubing with marine type grease will keep the bushings quiet.

Hope you like them. I know I like mine a lot. Please make sure you have the HD end links at some point or you will have broken ones. In answer to BlastReadingSeries,these HD anti-sway bars are as thick as can be used on the P80 series,made by IPD and race tested as well. Mine have been on now for over a year and they make a great dif in cornnering.My is a 2000V70 base model.The lube is only used for putting the bushings on and do not need relubing. Did you research the differences between the different kinds of front Volvo Sway bars? I read on MVS that there are three versions: the N/A, Turbo, and the R versions, each version subsequently getting thicker and stiffer, and each version being compatible in all the P80s. I think I'd go that way rather than have to lube up those IPD bushings every season. Especially with the salt up here in the Northeast. I can't wait to hear about what noises this upgrade has gotten rid of. Hope all is well, brother.
