Cassie Gray says:

what is the reason behind unplugging the coil, turning it over and having
the oil light come on?

ashley craft says:

need help……ive got oil pumping out of a little hole on my fuel pump any
body know what is going on here?..and if i replace the fuel pump will that
fix the problem?

Fredrick Metcalf says:

NICE car……good video……

tigre bengala says:

great video Rich, i own a 75 thing, pretty good condition, i’ve restored
it somewhat. not as beautiful as your bug but good non the less. regards,
from Monterrey Mexico.

Jose Francisco Medeiros says:

Nice looking engine and video. That external spin on filter is a very wise
investment, and much better then just the factory strainer. Another reason
to use Shell Rotella Diesel oil is that the level of ZDDP is at about 1200
ppm, which keeps the camshaft from going flat. Most engine oils have
reduced the ZDDP level to about 700 ppm to reduce the heavy metals from
contaminating Catalytic Converters.

rich pin says:

jose sosa: I use Rotella 15w40

jose sosa says:

Hello, what oil are u running for the oil change? Thanks. I got a dp1600
1973 beetle

AnObserver says:

Love air-cooled bugs…

Ruski Ryan says:

Why don’t you grease the gaskets and strainer when you reassemble ?, I was
told to grease them slightly to prevent seepage.

briotone says:

Only one question. Why didn´t you remove the drain plug in the center, to
let the bulk of the oil drain before removing the plate?
I found that way much easier for me!

lovemetu says:

For those people that don’t have a sense of knowing the correct torque to
put on the oil sump cover, surely use a light duty torque wrench, I am sure
that the Volkswagon manual gives a setting for these nuts.

Ruski Ryan says:

Great video, I guess if the filter/strainer is changed then there’ no need
to remove the drain plug as you are taking the plate off anyway, saves
breaking the seal and risking a leaking drain plug!.

MegaAv8or says:

At 07:57, how much oil did you pour into the filter? Did you fill it
completely?

alex covarrubias says:

Would you happen to know how to clean a 1967 beetle oil bath air filter ??
need help fast.

Jonodude0 says:

Runs so sweetly. Would love to have one of these

giftedMurderer says:

That is a really nice orange! Fits the bug perfectly!

zx8401ztv says:

Smashing tutorial 🙂 You have a loverly car, you must have put a lot of
work into it, so clean and fresh looking 🙂 Like the added oil filter and
prefill, dam good idea 🙂

Ken M says:

What type of muffler are you using ? What diameter inlet/ outlet ? It
sounds great!!!

richpin06a says:

I did not know that, thank you.

kristopherDay says:

Rich you’re getting oil all over you’re hands!

InfiniteMushroom says:

Bad points will cause all kinds of problems. The Beetle engine hates a weak
ignition. I never had good luck with points. The rubbing block always wore
down and required regapping. The points themselves lost conductivity in a
short period of time. I junked the points and condenser and put in a
Pertronix electronic ignition kit. Far better than even new points!
Stronger spark, more accurate timing, and the engine runs so much better.
You can gap the plugs just a bit more, i.e. 0.030″

richpin06a says:

Cheap insulation.

richpin06a says:

The strainer is nowhere near today’s standards, if you think about it it
does not do that much filtering..

TallerMovil1 says:

That is the main reason for original oil changes every 2.500 Km: 2 & 1/2
liters are cheap, throws away the dirt & since quick temperature changes,
disrupt the oil molecule in an air cooled engine FASTER & SOONER than on
watter cooled vehicles, new lubricant has a fresh molecule. Remember that
the OiL COOLER cicle starts with HOT oil & COOLS it before lubricating the
engine parts. We say “air cooled”, but 75% of the engine is cooled by oil.

richpin06a says:

She is my baby.

Aaron W says:

Love the new intros Richpin

Katya Harmel says:

My baby is a 1970 Beetle Sedan. It’s my dream car. I’m having a bit of
trouble with him at the moment though, he isn’t starting up… I checked
out the alternator and that isn’t the issue. I also checked the oil as well
as the air filter but it’s all clean. It’s most likely the battery, but I
just wasn’t sure. The guy I bought it from said it was a brand new battery.
Do you recommend anything else I should check out before purchasing a new
battery? I’m not an expert like you, but I’m learning!!!

richpin06a says:

If you can hear the engine spinning over when you try to start it could
need a tune up.Back in the day we used to put new points and condenser
(which are inside the distributor) spring and fall.

jr540123 says:

Damn that’s a thick oil to run in such a little engine, but then again I
always figured these babys just used straight 30 weight if you didn’t have
an oil filter.

stchman says:

He treated that Beetle like it was some priceless heirloom. I thought
Beetles you just changed the oil and ran them. They are supposed to be
bulletproof.

ncautoman57 says:

Why didn’t you use the oil drain bolt in the filter cover?

richpin06a says:

What year is your vw.

bestmastermind951 says:

lets run em 😉

Geoff Rundlett says:

very nice car, and video as usual :^) First time I’ve seen the fancy intro

richpin06a says:

Opps that was 17702 on the muffler.

March Of The Proud says:

When you’re cleaning the strainer does it matter whether the brake cleaner
is non-chlorinated or not? And same question applies to actually cleaning
up brakes on an old VW

LCCharlie says:

When I was in my twenties I had a ’65, and although it didn’t have a lot of
power it was a hoot to drive. I’m not sure I’d drive an old Bug now,
however; I have heard they’re not very safe vehicles. Is that a concern for
you, Rich?

richpin06a says:

Because they stop producing that cover on the later VWs with the drain plug
to force people to drop the cover and clean the strainer.I wanted to show
how you drain the oil without the center drain plug.

richpin06a says:

On the 12 volt beetle the voltage regulator is under the back seat on the
drivers side.

Lalodrd says:

I’m have same problem and change voltage regulator and its fixes expend
only. 35 box

richpin06a says:

I am still thinking.

hankthebugman says:

Keep the bug spirit alive.

fomoco300k says:

Rich, what is the bolt in the middle of that cover for? Is it for draining
the oil before removing the screen cover? By the way… NICE BUG!! You
should do a video about it. We’d like to see the rest of it.

Geoff Rundlett says:

Definitely, the intro adds polish to your video. The real hero in this
story though is not fancy technical eye candy, it is the excellent man and
his video content so graciously shared. Thanks always to Richpin06a!

Larry Morales says:

Nice car!!
