Volkswagen Beetle (1998-2015) – New Battery Install

Volkswagen Beetle (1998-2015) – New Battery Install

Learn how to install a new battery in a Volkswagen Beetle. We’ll show you how to replace/change/remove with simple tips and tricks to help get you started!

Tool List: 10mm wrench, 13mm wrench, Torque Wrench

Many late model VW Beetles have the 12 volt battery conveniently located under the hood, but some models require specific procedures to be followed before, during or after the replacement procedure. Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture’s step by step procedures found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on.

Even if your vehicle did not come with an AGM battery, you can upgrade to an AGM battery for up to 2x the life. AGM can be found at most retail outlets. You can learn more about AGM here: https://www.autobatteries.com/en-us/battery-technology-types/absorbent-glass-mat-agm-battery

The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the memory alive on the vehicle’s computer during the battery replacement procedure. Referring to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer’s requirements. https://youtu.be/vSP3ShcaFgQ

Some late model vehicles must have the 12 volt battery registered with the vehicle’s Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. See these videos on Battery registration and coding for more details on the procedures at https://youtu.be/TGKohKZHzr0 & https://youtu.be/cxOK_DczRGg

Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.

This is not useful nor a 2001 beetle.

Plan to fail, design to succeed says:

Removing original battery on My 2010 and the new battery came with a ventilator elbow and plug. The packaging of the elbow refers to a venting tube. I attached the venting port elbow, but i don’t see a tube anywhere. I don’t recall removing a tube either when I took out the old battery. Is it possible that there is no venting tube to connect to the elbow?

Jim Henry says:

OK I screwed up.
I just took my old factory battery out and did not use a memory saver.
So now I have programing issues.
What do I do to fix this?

Rita Dianne Platt says:

What do you need to do if you don't have a memory saver?

MrZerohour1967 says:

If someone connected a dumb transformer based charger to the vehicle without battery, you'd be dumping a high voltage (likely around 18 – 20V) unregulated, unfiltered, rectified DC directly into the vehicle electronics. I'd be very worried about much if the expensive vehicle electronics in doing that.

George’s Auto Garage says:

Not the same in a 2007, don’t watch if your car is 2007-2015, the procedure is different than what’s shown
