Jennifer Adams says:

Thanks for the video. My Mk5 Jetta threw the upper (inner) belt, then we found out the pulley was bad, so we are replacing all three pulleys (idler and both tensioners), and the bottom tensioner pulley (the one you're replacing in this video) doesn't have the metal washer cap, just the bolt. We were trying to find out if the washer cap was supposed to be there or not. Haven't had any problems with the bottom (outer) belt or that bottom tensioner pulley, even though there is no washer cap on the pulley, and I've had the car for over 4 years and drive it 50+ miles every day.

Shawn Afshar says:

What are the torque specs for those two bolts?

Allen Nolden says:

So would this be the similar for the 5 cyl Golf? VW wants roughly 750$ in labor. I'm assuming it's a bit harder..

Paul Steinmiller says:

Is this replacement similar to the replacement of the tensioner on a TDI?

Leonardo Reyes says:

What do you torque down the pulley 2

habitat says:

Do you have to replace the tensioner every time you replace the belt?

auxmike says:

Is this the 2.0L engine, NON turbo?

Greg Geis says:

I need to replace my water pump so engine is coming out. My tensioners and pulleys seem good but have 130k miles. Can they all be replaced with the engine in place or should I replace any while it is out?

SoDelDub says:

Highly recommend a wheel hanger for any VW owner. It's basically a metal rod you thread in place of a lug bolt that will help guide the wheel on & off the studless hub. Makes lining up your lug holes while lifting the wheel/tire easier.
