How to Install a Volkswagen GTI Big Brake Kit

How to Install a Volkswagen GTI Big Brake Kit

In this video, I install the GTI brakes on the golf. On top of that, while I have the car in the air and the suspension taken apart, I install lowering springs too to make it sit better. I picked these brakes up used for 80 bucks, and I took the time to paint them, get rid of any rust, and put them back together.

Juan Carlos Perez says:

I'm doing big calipers on my 03 wolf gti
Is 5×100 rotors my question is got Porsche cayenne 18z calipers want to know what size of rotors need to get?

Jonathan Woods says:

Note that the brakes on the car at the start of the video have pads that are incorrectly installed. The three-prong clip is supposed to go inside the hollow part of the piston, not through the outboard half of the caliper.

Lincoln Burns says:

Hi I want to do this to my 2014 ibiza. I just don't know what knuckle to get as its a 5speed manual?

Modesto Vargas says:

What are those discs and caliper?

Making Waves says:

Seems like this car need much more maintenance than just the breaks …

123rabanal says:

Great Video. No hard Feelings but they sell a socket to put that hub back on the shock. Goes in the back of it. The small slit in the back of the hub. Turn quarter turn and no grease required.

Szabolcs Vipler says:

Hi did you replace the 256mm brake with the 288mm brake?

DJJumpdancer says:

1:06 i can see that the wheels are in bad shape as well

praveencbz150 says:

Is 256mm dust shield is enough for 288mm rotor does it needs to be changed to bigger one or not

Steve Flores says:

Are all these parts needed for the upgrade? I assume you can't use any of the stock parts for the bigger brakes…?

henne117 says:

Do the two cars have different knuckles?
Can’t you just change the caliper and the rotors on the stock knuckle of your car?
Would be interesting to know!

David H says:

I did a real world test as following :

Did a premium brake job on a 05 Sunfire using OEM brakes, service and flush calipers, results minor rust and Normal brake wear within 6 month's.

Did same brake job on slotted and drilled rotors on same vehicle (03) same results and you could see start of strees cracks and yup you get drilled holes filling up with junk.

Finally did a similar brake job on a (00) Cavy ( same ) car only difference it had 2.4 l.I used premium coated brake rotors and Hawk brake pads.Stopped a littke better, brake were less sponggy and same results, normal brake wear and minor rust starting.

I used customers cars fur testing ( thier permission ) same roads, same conditions and same speed.

Result no real BIG difference !!!

David H says:

Whenever you can use new nuts, boots washers and cotter pins . . . . Dude it's yours or someone's life.

What happened tourqing your nuts and bolts, so wrong in a 100 ways !!!

David H says:

Dude !!!! Never ever pinch a brake hose that way !!!! Always block off using "pinchless" clamp not vice grips . . . . So wrong.

Jeka Constantinov says:

So to do this upgrade I need the hubs from a Gti aswell? Will the big caliper fit on a stock 2.0 gl hub? thx in advance

Johnathan Harrison says:

Hey Milan, what are the specs on this caliper and rotor? I want the same set up for my golf

mujjuman says:

i have same car except sedan version

Jok Prayogo says:

No No No….the bigger disk is better in my opini on

Johnathan Harrison says:

Was this off of a 20th anniversary GTI? I’m asking because I can’t find these brake calipers on any 2003 GTIs. I’m looking to upgrade my brakes on my 2004 golf TDI and I obviously would like the cheapest way possible. Also, I just learned about the existence of a floating rotor. What do you think about floating rotors?

Farhaan Ingar says:

Can i put any brake kit on my toyota runx?

Matthías Little says:

What is the size of the gti rotors in mm

Welile Boysie says:

hi wanted to know if the 312mm discs brakes will if inside a 16inch alloy? i have a polo and i would like to upgrade my breaks too

Jordan Rumsey says:

Great video! My only comment on the job in its entirety would be to advise viewers to never clamp off a brake line, it will surely cause a collapsed brake line. Additionally, the 2004.5 Jetta GLI 1.8T has the largest brakes if you're looking for size, they have the same size as the R32. Not the VR6, just the 2004.5 1.8T GLI for whatever reason

Outsida2K says:

Great video! Did you have to go up in rim size. What size wheels do you have?

jeremy whittler says:

Don't waste your cash on the tuning house brakes. These OEM+ brakes are not effective.

jerome vet says:

how about bleeding the brake fluid to get rid of the air in side of the system , that's kinda crucial to be able to brake. and should be included in a disc replacement tutorial. other wise nice video

Chris Hoppe says:

whered you pick them up from?

angel flores says:

How do you bleed the brakes ??

Cogwinder Gaming says:

so you basicly used mk4 GTi brake calipers with drilled & grooved discs?

mitchell duchesne says:

This is by far one of the cleanest instructional videos I've seen to date. You speak clearly, great lighting, and you know what you're doing. How do you not have more than 500K subs.
Keep it up!
