Toyota NO-START, NO-COMM (Parking Lot Diag)

Toyota NO-START, NO-COMM (Parking Lot Diag)

This reliable 2005 Toyota Camry with 230k miles refused to start in the parking lot of a mall.

I didn’t bring my full diagnostic kit, and the weather is refusing to cooperate.
But the job must be done, so let’s do some parking lot diagnostics!

Toyota cult: this does not happen. Ever.

Bro. Under a car with no jack stands?

Flemming Jacobsen says:

It shows the truth behind the importance of the history of recent events….in many cases, the first place to look is the last place that human hands were. Another job well done, Ivan.

Fox Trot says:

I wouldn't leave my trunk open in a parking lot like that.

jason sutherland says:

Amazing, good diagnosis

boz ly says:

You are my new freakn hero. I watched a few of your videos and bought me a scanner. I love the way you divide and conquer!

Paul George says:

Im New to you’re channel and I must say I love your work keep it up!!!

Amin Mombini says:

Hi ivan ,very helpful video as always, actually using test light and DVOM together to perform a dynamic circuit test is so tricky, but i try to trace the leads how they are conected in the circuit got nothing though i can guess the pttern but it would be great if you show the details ,ofcource i know due to time limitation you can't record all the process but all the diagnosis that you've done in such a short amount of time is the result of your amazing method which is hidden in the video.
REGARDS.

Would you know if there is a fuse for the cruise control?

John Botero says:

What was the problem?

Garvin Ranch says:

Do you have a more specific video or info on how you set up that test light, dvom setup?

Sta2200 says:

Man,.,,you are GOOD !!

jeremy canning says:

Why do people start the engine then start revving the engine. How about starting it then allow it to idle to allow the oil to circulate

duotronic says:

Wonder if the failed repairs leading to this were DIY or an incompetent shop?

Ralph H. says:

Very nice work. The test lights, actually old school stuff-combined with fearless schematic reading, even using Euclid's process of elimination…Well done

Karl Vondrak says:

Ivan, great diagnostic/trouble shooting. I like your methodology of going through things and way to tough it out in the rain. I wish you were close by to me. I enjoy these electrical trouble shooting videos, keep up the great work!!

boat buddy says:

Can you give a class on how to read electrical diagrams ?

Craig Goodwin says:

Ivan, you're tenacious! I would have called a tow truck and had the car delivered to a dry spot. Not that tough any more. Thanks for Sharing!

PistonShack says:

First, even before you started looking wiring diagram _ i thought most likely if this fuse feeds O2 sensors, our cause of short should be close to source of heat! Look for source of heat and vibration to locate shorts – ScannerDanner!

Paul Bolton says:

Hi Ivan another great video is there any way you could do a short video on your 2 bulb test light and how it works on finding a short to ground i'm really intrigued with it i'm just a diy mechanic and feel i'm learning a lot from your videos thanks a lot mate and happy new year

lvsqcsl says:

I'm convinced short of a nuclear blast there is NOTHING that intimidates you! I remember years ago, the Postal Service had some saying about, "Neither rain, nor snow, etc. will keep us from our appointed rounds." I think you should adopt that as well, Ivan. Great video!

NS Newfie says:

Crawling under a car on a wet parking lot while its on a scissor jack…stupid move. Can't fix cars when you're crushed to death, be better Ivan.

AJ096 says:

hello. can you explain the setup with the test light that you have connected to the fuse? i'd like to make my own setup like that to check for shorts.

emrfixit says:

Great wrk Ivan!

Buff Barnaby says:

Wouldn't pass the "smoke test" in Calif. Rev up and look for smoke. Some SMOG guys rev the Hell out of it like they are TRYING to make it fail.
My 2002 Focus has 201k miles and no smoke/uses very little oil. No residue in tail pipe. PASSED

MrMjn5000 says:

nice job…..

don2deliver says:

Had an early 90's Camry drop a rusted exhaust and shorted the O2 heater wire.
Popped the EFI fuse. I thought the same thing, not many fuses, and an O2 heater shouldn't take out the fuel pump and ignition. Surprised it stayed that way until 2005.
