thanks for the videos man, im gettin ready to do my rear diff this
weekend – i thought i saw a livermore subaru plate holder on there and
noticed the alameda county fair paper haha im in pleasanton so you must be
from around here somewhere.
actually they aren’t the 04 has the 5×100 hubs and the 05 up have the
5×114.3 (if i remember correctly) and they also have a different strut
design so they need minor modification to fit properly
did you use lsd fluid? or just regular gear oil?
I thought you were supposed to remove the fill plug first to release
pressure, then the drain plug.
What size bolt do you need for the fill hole? Is it a 22MM deep socket?
Also is the drain hole a standard 1/2 ratchet end?
search jet ski oil pump , that looks like it will work great on this
application, 20 bucks on ebay, thanks for the vid!
Is there a reason why you didn’t take the main fill bolt off instead you
took the center senor part off? Thanks, -N
@tullyman if you have a performance shops close by that sells motul oils
bro go get those they will feel amazing when u put on your tranny and diff.
For 07’s you can use motul gear oil 75w90 for both tranny and diff..
I have those same tires!! :D… A while back I trieed to get my fill plug
off to no avail. Can the differential housing withstand an impact gun or
the use of a dead blow?
They make a funnel that you fill from the top and has a tube at the bottom.
Get it.
Silly Question. How do you get your 06-07 STi up on all four jack stands. I
know there are pinch welds in the front and back but mine are all bent. Are
yours bent up as well? I heard you can put the jack on the diff? Maybe you
can post a short vid. Thanks
in the front, put it on the cross member. its wayyyy in there, so look for
it. in the back, yeah you can lift it from the diff, its safe.
I did this today on a MY07 2007 WRX Impreza. It’s slightly different to the
STi. One trick is to use a strong neodymium/hard-drive magnet behind a rag
or tissue, it is stronger than the magnet on the drain plug, and will just
pull the shavings right off the plug. I had to put the car up on ramps to
get at the plugs, I tried getting the plugs out with the car level, but you
can’t get decent torque, as the angles are pretty awkward and there is a
sway bar there too. Castrol SAF-XA fully synthetic.
I have a 2004 Lexus RX330. i would like to change the front differential
and transfer case, do you know where they are located? I have read
somewhere it says that the front differential is through the transmission
is that correct?
@acnexs yep. i dont think the WRXs have the plug though, so easier for you!
спасибо большое за видео,очень помог.
How did you get the drain bolt off? My car is jacked up right now. It looks
like a I need some kinda deep tool to fit in it but I don’t know what’s
called or the size.
you have the best videos on youtube, congrats! everyone talks about mods &
bullshit, but no one mentions routine maintenance. huge thumbs up bro,
can’t say it enough. once i start residency, i’m getting an sti.
Rotary engines can be reliable but if you don’t know alot about them and
don’t invest alot of time in them then just avoid them
This is for the 2006 wrx sti, not sure about other years. Rear Diff Fill &
Drain Plug – 36.2 ft/lb
@Sandeep9201 subarus are great cars in general. very reliable and packed
full of power with the turbos. mine hasnt seen any oil burn whatever. boxer
engines and rotary engines are not even close to the same thing. rotary
engines basically suck with reliability due to the way they work. a boxer
engine is similar to a “v” or inline engine, just that the pistons go back
and forth like a boxers arms rather than in a “v” shape or straight up and
down like an inline. id def. recommd the subaru

your purchase any time. The website has great features. Check it out.
@krossF thanks man. yeah that used to be me in high school. i guess i got
old lol, and now i just do maintenance stuff. modding is kinda over rated
these days and a huge hassle
that was easy !
next time use a water bottle with a sport top to fill the diff. Fill the
bottle with fluid put the sport top on then squeeze the fluid out of the
bottle into the diff. repeat a second time and it’s full.
hi there great tutorial but what kind of oil is for the differentiali have
a valvoline 85w-140 its that good? thanks
@shades2 STi’s have LSD by the way, normal WRX Imprezas have non-LSD rear
diff. The advantage is greater traction through turns. The LSD is heavier,
and more complex than a non-LSD (it’s almost like a mini clutch), and
should probably be serviced every 2 years to be safe.
Thanks man for the tutorial how many liters of oil are required for this
change?
Sorry nukem not to jack your video but @ Sandeep subarus are very reliable
bro u keep your maintenance up and these things can go to 100k to 200k
miles without a doubt I’ve a 1992 impreza 1998 RS 2003 bugeye and now I’m
on my 07 sti very good cars…
my 2011 sti is leaking oil from rear diff. Only 10k miles on it. Is this a
known problem? Second time its happening to me. Im taking in this monday
for service. Hope those basterds fix it or else im going to write a
complaint to Subaru of America. Im so pissed!!!
@NewShockerGuy didnt have a socket big enough for the main bolt.
that does not sound good at all. might want to get your rear dif checked.
The MY06 has a limited slip rear diff and requires a special additive. MY07
uses Torsen diff no additive needed. The add comes all in one from Subaru
part # K0904AA080 LSD oil Subaru.
How bad is it that i found about 15 pellets of metal, seems to be the tips
of the teeth of the gears, in my drain pan after doing this. It’s from an
02 with 84000 miles
@mikeylee2001 i dont drive my sti that much, so it only had like 18k on it.
i believe the interval is every 30k
