Thanks Richpin! Worked perfectly. I’ve been wanting to do this mod for
quite some time now. Recently the stock horn died and I needed to do
something before my inspection this month. Thanks for all your great
videos!
@richpin06a they sound much better =P i sure wont be hesitant about using
them now =P as far as for the alarm it seems it hasn’t got much louder due
to how short of burst it does, but the tone difference makes it so it is
heard easier, so in my book is a win. overall it was well worth the work.
Nice modification. I like when someone gets something to work where it
wasn’t necessarily intended. People should make sure not to leave off the
diode or connect it incorrectly, though, because the relay can generate a
voltage spike when it’s deactivated, which could damage something else in
your electrical system (or at least blow the fuse constantly). The diode
lets the current bleed off through the coil in the relay instead.
i got a question what if u dont add a rely cause i got a integra wit a 1
wire conector going to the horn so i was woundeing what if u didnt add the
rely? oh and also i found me the same exact horns from a 1991 dodge caravan
@FyberOptic Is this diode something that is commonly associated with most
relays? I’m unclear as to where the voltage spike happens and how the diode
protects other elements. A schematic might have been helpful. Thanks for
posting, Rich.
Thanks alot I bought a set of Saturn horns which came with a relay, i didnt
know hw to wire it using a relay after watching this clip it was just too
easy i went on it like a pro mannn it sounds great i just need to get me a
diode,, Question, IS ALL DIODE THE SAME? WHICH TO GET?
@spelunkerd Yeah it’s not uncommon to place a protection diode across
things using a coil (like a motor), especially when connected to sensitive
electronics (like a security system). The coil in the relay also acts as an
inductor, which oppose changes in current. When the horn button (which
creates a path to ground for the coil) is released, so is the stored energy
in the coil to maintain current, and the exit path’s differing (than direct
ground) resistance can now result in higher voltage.
@richpin06a thanks for all the help, i ended up going to the pull a part,
asking for a list of lumina’s and devilles. turns out they had a 2000
deville and i checked it out, it had the klaxxon horns like you were saying
but a different mounting style. i got it working basically the way you
showed all except the mounting spot =P but thanks, im not sure why i havnt
sub’s yet but i did now.

lol this is much better. i use to own a 97 sl2 and my friends would always
laugh at the horn whenever i had to use it…
@1991darkmage How to you like your new horns.

Ha ha ha, I’m glad you chose one from a Caddy. Now show us how to mount cow
horns on the hood of a gen 2 Saturn.
how many db’s are those horns? I wanna pick some up at the boneyard
Thanks Rich, I like your style.
Just curious, did the original 3 wire horn have an integrated relay or was
the relay externaly mounted? Thanks for the great videos
Thanks for this video. I need to change the horn on my ’99 Saturn SC1 again.
@BAXMAN68 Yes it had a integrated relay.
@simkid5614 My sentiment exactly on the stock saturn horn.
as always great video =]
@FyberOptic That’s a good explanation, thank you.

Nice Rich! I need to do this to my car, it has a dinky horn.
Neat!! The paint on that ’98 looks brand new. You should post a follow-up
when you use the new horns in traffic!!
@1991darkmage You might have to make due with the larger delco remy horn
which are on all the GM cars.
when you did your fathers tercel did you use the same rely?
@richpin06a thanks rich that makes sense
i got a question what if u dont add a rely cause i got a integra wit a 1

hey richpin, love ur videos. Dont mean to sound rude but why would someone
need to do this?
@richpin06a and it sounds EMBARRASSINGLY cheesy. Honestly. I try to never,
ever, use my horn because of how it sounds. hahaha

It’s embarrassing to honk the horn in a near miss, it doesnt resonate with
enough anger.

@Jx1x3 I haven’t clue
@bestmastermind951 If you do not add a relay you will burn out the horn
contacts in the horn buttons.
@1991darkmage Couple years ago i put horns from a 1996 chevy lumina (nice
loud sound)on my fathers little toyota tercel,he loves them.

what other models does this horn happen to be on? there is no 99 Cadillac
deville in my local pull a part, thanks a lot richpin 🙂
@Tressah The stock three wire horn is not loud at all plus it is almost
impossible to find used but there are tons of two wire horns to choose from.
