I get about 24mpg on mine with no mods
Why paint it with Bed liner? It’s heavy, it only gets worse looking over time, now you can’t do any body work if you ever get a ding or dent.
One key factor people forget is driving style. The heavier the right foot, the lower MPG you will get.
25mpg avg, on 1967 Ford Mustang 6cyl. No special any thing. Barely tuned. Points and carburetor with copper kinda gapped plugs. Used whatever fuel I could find around the garage or cheapest station gas. Had whatever tires I could find, maybe even a recap or two. Had air in the tires, I guess.
I still think that bedliner is negatively affecting mpg
Another thing that would help a lot, but would be a big undertaking, would be to make some underbody paneling that smooths the air flow under the mdx and keeps it from catching on things and creating drag
