I Engine Swapped My 50yr+ Land Rover – But was It Worth It?

I Engine Swapped My 50yr+ Land Rover – But was It Worth It?

The 1975 Land Rover Series 3 restoration continues, and this time it’s finally time for one of the biggest jobs yet — an engine swap, and with no experience.

New engine: Land Rover 300TDI 2.5L

Before pulling the old engine, I give the replacement engine a some service and get it ready to go in.

The original plan included keeping the turbo, but things didn’t quite work out that way, so I had decided to ditch it, for now. Yeah I know… So for now it’s only a 300di

If you’ve been following the Series 3 restoration, thanks for watching and following the project.

Fantastic…..so you can fit a 300 as a di…..I fitted a 200di into my 1975 S3 15 years ago…..often wondered if a 300 would fit.

Love my 200di……loads of power and so economical…..some say more so that if a turbo fitted……with a 200 its a very easy conversion…..no cutting or welding.

Outstanding media literacy. Very good attention to detail. The old gearbox will hold you back a bit. Really nice restoration of the original SIII. Kudos for sharing your process warts and all.

what roof rack do you have?

@mp721 says:

Nice job. I would have change the P gasket as well with the engine apart they often leak on these engines.

Nice, did the same with my 109. I added power steering from a p38. Which also solved the problem with the turbo.

What will you do with the old engine? I have a benz motor in my serie 3 but on the hunt for a landy one 🙂
