Hi there I have recently done this mod but my SID Screen is dead after removing the CD changer. I used the green and red wire for constant live ( going into the block) switched live and Earth from cig lighter, speaker wire going into block. I have also looped the fibre optics from the cd changer. I've looked at every forum and cannot find the answer, can you help? Lol

Treaze On The Track says:

If you want to keep the stock speakers how do you do the hard wiring to hook up the deck?

Ha Ha An update really for you Bryan, my 2 din stereo fitting got put to bed notdone a year or so ago and I had been driving around with the CD removed and my homemade fibre link in place with no real issues. I got a plug in MP3 player that plugs into the Cigar lighter and transmits a radio signal that you tune in on the radio and thats how its been up until a couple of weeks ago.
When I decided I really need to fit the stereo I brought a2 din DVD sat Nav multimedia system.
Well I got a local metalwork firm to bend me a bit of 1mm mild steel 300mm long with a 6mm return on it.
Then using dremmel a saw and pliers I cut it in half and copied the profile of the original cage and mounted the new stereo by drilling holes to match the m5 tapped holes in the side of the stereo. I stripped everything out yesterday. One of the things I will have to modify are the runners that hold the ashtray and cigar lighter they will need removing (with a saw) now I decided before doing this I'd run the GPS antenna Quite easy take the grill off infront of the SID remove the the 2x T20 screws from the SID so GPS cable run under the SID then the GPS module can be attached to SID at the rear. I fished the wire by feeding a wire down from the top that eventually appeared somewhere near the radio bay pulled it through the rerouted so it came through in the correct place then taped my GPS cable on the top end an pulled it all through easy!

Still not sure about sawing the runners off so decided to re measure. As once they are gone they're gone and if the radio dosen't fit its game over? So heres the deal. It will fit from the dimmensions at the front but at the back there is a steel bracket the stereo is 5mm to low to avoid it if it goes in far enough to hit it. The next measurment was to deterine how far in the stereo will go in.Well the answer is too far by about 20mm. So not easy to do. the options are file 5mm off the steel but not advisable as it looks structual. Also cutting 5mm off the bottom of the stereo isn't possible neither is shortening it by 20mm. So the only option is to pull the stereo forward so it doesnt hit the steel bar. This isn't as bad as it sounds as my calculations when making the brackets meant the front of the DVD screen was 5mm recessed behind the edge of the climate module. It looks like pulling forward 15-20mm will be enough and at worse will then protrude 10-15mm which will still be recessed from the front of the console. Anyway thats as far as we got as I ran out of daylight and time and had to put the car back together for work tomorrow. So a few mods to my metalwork this week Should make it possible to fit the thing next weekend?
Still got to decide what to do with the speaker wiring I'm thinking use the SAAB wiring to the rear hooked up to my 6x9s and put 2 new speakers in the doors if I can locate the wiring and leave the dash mounts on the original system for warning bleeps and indicator sounds as my car doesn't even have the center speaker in the dash, the wiring is there assuming that that is what the 2pin black plug I found under the grill is for?

So anyone thinking of fitting a 2Din stereo in a SAAB 93 2003-2006 don't do it! fit a single din like Bryan has done unless you enjoy a challenge

Is there any possibility that you could post a video of you actually performing the process correctly? Im having trouble following and would rather not brick my car when i dont plug something up correctly while just trying to upgrade the stereo.

ovi gameloft says:

My question is – can both be kept?
I mean if my Saab has a cd/mp3 player integrated in the dash, can I also add an aftermarket cassette tape player, so I could use both the original cd player but also the tape player?
Thanks

Julien Melendez says:

Still pretty confusing.

Panacea Therapeutics says:

Excellent video, thanks, quick Q for you, does the conversion require two of the loop back connectors? One for each unit?

Treaze On The Track says:

What cords do you plug into the loopback? Can you dm me on twitter or insta @whotreaze

Martin Bull says:

Do i have to wire that harness running from cd changer to each speaker or will it be plug & play jobby.

daniel guise says:

Not sure if this has already been covered (there's lots of comments) but what speaker wires do you use? I'd be tempted to feed my own through leaving the dash ones in place for indicators etc…

Jonathan Devaney says:

Hey I followed your steps and bought the fiber optic loop and my after market radio will not turn on it just blinks red behind the faceplate any idea what is going on? I noticed when I got this car that the cigarette lighter doesn't work and it was missing the cap. is there any other alternative to getting switched power and ground to my radio?

Zew Kee says:

what head unit did you install? and do you still have to get the Tech II to enable the aux?

Tdogg H says:

hey bro what harness did you use
