Thanks for the vid! Your detailed demonstration of how to put the bearings back in is terrific! I have the axle out and was planning on taking it to a driveline shop. Now you've inspired me to do it myself!

Afternoon Garage says:

8:36 Did you inspect the bearing surfaces after you cleaned them up? They look pitted like the balls have been binding. I am making content and mine are all wasted like yours look. I had to change all four. This WILL make noise and cause future issues.

Hi,
Can this procedure be performed while axle is on the car?

Owl2059 says:

Man, how do people think of this stuff. Engineers are smart

peter schmidt says:

Also important to put the same axle back on the same side of the car. The metal has been stress hardened by years of torsional force in 1 direction, putting the axle on the other side and stressing it the other way will increase the chance of a failure.

CC P says:

The goal would be to have no grease at the outside. This is not the way to do this, sorry.

Great Video I assembled it wrong the first time and that thing refused to come back apart! After about half an hour a ball moved and it finally got just the right spot and came apart! Thanks for posting this!

I'm tackling this job on the weekend so your vid really helps. Many thanks.

Derek Rees says:

First class video. Very well narrated and executed. You covered all the bases. Thank you.

Rafsan Bhuiyan says:

Is there any risk while performing this boot replacement? Will my axle perform as it is supposed to or is it a better idea to buy a new axle? I appreciate this video. Thank you for your time.

Zulu says:

Make sure you put the thrust washer in as well otherwise RIP.

pmgear says:

I am in the middle of it, splined hub wont come off……yes clip is off, thanks for sharing, now I know I just have to keep tapping that hub until it releases.

Augie Inciong says:

Thanks for the video. When I did my 4runner's front axles, I didn't put the grease on until after I has the boot clamped onto the shaft. Made it less messy. Also, I used a metal clamp for clamping the boot on the shaft. Great job. Thanks again.
