Thsi is how I replace brake pads and rotors on my vehicles. I’ve been doing it this way for years and haven’t had any problems.

I’ve done it many times. No special tool needed and the ABS is irrelevant.
My sister’s fiance told me I’d need a special tool since my Silhoutte has ABS; he was wrong, eh? This doesn’t look too difficult at all, though I still loathe brake jobs.
they come like that in from the factory so when there going down the assembly line the rotor doesnt come off the car when its being worked on.
Oh man that rotor just came right off after taking off the caliper? On The Fords you have to take out a cap, cotter pin, and some nuts that hold in in. Thats kind of scary knowing this on the Silhouette. One thing I would like to add though is it helps to take the cap off the reservoir under the hood when your pushing that piston back in.

Getting ready to do the exact same thing to my ’01 Silhouette. Thanks for posting. It brought it all back to me since I haven’t done it in a while and unfortunately because I put it off so long, now I have to do the rotors too!
great video but i don’t understand why you just throw the hubcaps on the ground like that. you’ll scratch them up!

You need a lathe to machine rotors. I don’t have one. I also know how to operate a lathe. If i had access to one I definately would do it.
Not really and machining rotors are easy just have to learn how .
New rotors are so cheap. I don’t think it’s worth the hassel.

Haha. Yeah. Funny coincidence. I concidered buying the tool a couple times but still haven’t.
Watching this was scary! I have a gold ’01, have a gotie(?), glasses, the same build, am to cheap to buy the caliper tool, and wait til the pads are toast also! It’s like watching my self
Here’s a tip, take the calipers off, then separate the caliper bracket from the caliper. and ALWAYS lube the slide pins.

I agree. I wasn’t under the car so I got a little to confident. The only thing is that a jack stand at the lowest height is a lot higher than I would like it to be. I guess better safe than sorry though.
Always, always use jack stands to hold the vehicle. I’ve had jacks fail, trust me you do not want to be anywhere near it when it comes down.

No. Only the front brakes are disc brakes. The rear brakes are drum brakes.

Oh yeah. The brakes were metal to metal. It made a nasty grinding sound when you would stop. Works great now and is so quiet again. It only cost me 55 bucks to do it too.
