Hard Starting! Fuel System Diagnosis – Pump? Filter? Regulator? Olds Silhouette GM 3.4L V6

In this video we attempt to analyze an occasional hard-starting issue likely due to insufficient fuel pressure on a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan with a 3.4L V6 engine and a PFI fuel system. We’ll learn:
How to connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail.
How to measure fuel pressure Key-On-Engine-Off and Key-On-Engine-Running.
How to compare actual fuel pressures to factory specifications.
How to use a multi-meter (ammeter) to measure fuel pump current draw.
How to install a section of rubber hose in order to clamp off the return line.
How to use a compression connector to repair the plastic fuel line.
How to replace a fuel pressure regulator.
In the end I conclude that I have a weak fuel pump. This diagnosis was tricky because the pump did not die, but simply was weak.

Did it make a difference in starting. I have the grand am 3.4 and when it's warm it's hard starting as well when it turns over hard it feels like the engine shakes bad. I have established that it isn't spark because I changed all the coils plugs and wires it has a new fuel pump and filter but still have this issue. The regulator is the next thing I am thinking of changing I don't have a pressure tester to test it so at this point it's just a guessing game. But if this made a difference on your van I may just replace it

I own a 2004 Chevy Venture and have done several repairments on it myself…but when I run into something I can not do myself, I look up a tutorial….however, at times there arent many on these Ventures. Considering you are uploading these tutorials, I am so thankful to you. Please do keep up doing so. Best of Luck for you.
