Thanks, Carl. Glad to help. Cheers

Carl Beck says:

Thanks for doing this! It made my day to find this video easily as well as your instructions making the job easy as well!

CarsNToys says:

You’ll have to compress/push the tab. They can be tough sometimes. Some techs use needle nose pliers but you’ll crack the plastic housing if you’re not careful.

CarsNToys says:

Thanks, KaeGji. Glad to help. Cheers

KaeGji says:

I’m about to do this for a friend, looking forward to it…I love mechanics

Mike B says:

So heres my problem im trying to replace my alternator but for whatever reason the electrical connection (which u skip and pre loosen) seems to be completely different from the rest of the push clip release sensors. I cannot push it in i cant pull the tab forward either and i feel like im going to break it. how do i get that sensor off the alternator?

CarsNToys says:

That’s awesome, Dimitri. Glad to help out. Cheers.

Dimitri Saunders says:

Just did this yesterday August 30, 2013. Took me 6 hours cause its my first time doing this.

Great video. Perfect.

If i may add i found that i did not had to remove the top coolant hose as i had the battery out and could tilt and shift the fans out.

All in in this video is perfect.

CarsNToys says:

Glad to help. Cheers

simtech1rmj says:

Good video. I needed it. Thanks

Gladimir Milly says:

Oh Okay BASICALLY i need a new belt with that new alternator. It screeches too

CarsNToys says:

Couldn’t say for sure how hot the pulley gets under load, but you can check the belt deflection. If you didn’t buy a new belt, the range is 4.2-4.6mm (if your car has A/C) and applying 22ft lbs.

Gladimir Milly says:

Okay I put evrything on. The car runs but the Wheel on the alternator Is Hot. I look at the alignment it seems Fine to me.I dnt think I put the belt tight.

CarsNToys says:

Hi Gladimir. Did you buy the correct alternator? There are two types; California type and non-California. The new alternator fits where the old alternator was located. And yes, you need the end point of where the long bolt is screwed in to. Take a look on my facebook page. I’ll insert a diagram showing the two bolts.

Gladimir Milly says:

I did evrything that u did.but the new álternator looks different but Idk.after I put evrything TOGETHER the belt didnt want to connect. Is there a way the álternator has to be place? And the Long Bolt thats on the alternator theres. Pierce that connects at the end of it I cant find it do i really need it

CarsNToys says:

Left on the jack.

Gladimir Milly says:

Did u leave the ac compresser on the jack or u toke it out completly to get the alternator out?

CarsNToys says:

Glad to help, Shane. Cheers

shane myatt says:

thanks man made my life so much easier

DIRTYI30 says:

Word. I think I need to get an OEM alternator then. Thanks

CarsNToys says:

The California type alternator has serial number LR1110-709. If you can’t find the part number on the alternator, take the alternator to your local part store. The California type & non-California type have slightly different housings. You can match up the housing at the part store and buy the correct part. Cheers.

vetten someday says:

It is a 1997

CarsNToys says:

Sure. You can also look at the part number on the alternator. What year is your Maxima?

vetten someday says:

Yes this would be the first time lolol. let me ask you. You said something about the california emissions would be a 110amp buy looking at the sticker under the hood. What if the sticker in not there is there any were else that would dictate the alternator size

CarsNToys says:

If this is your first time doing this kind of job I would say give yourself three hours to be on the safe side.

vetten someday says:

So what is the total time to do this ?????

CarsNToys says:

If you didn’t have the problem before you replaced the alternator I doubt you have a bad fuse.

CarsNToys says:

That’s great, Dodgy. Glad to help. Cheers!

DodgyRogue says:

Our radiator seemed to be a different standard to yours as we could remove the fan unit pretty easy without removing the top radiator hose. We still couldn’t seem to remove the alternator, so we removed the bracket that is the upper fixing of the alternator to the engine block, dropped the A/C unit down and back and managed to squeeze the alternator out through the wheel arch. Don’t know how you managed to do this on your own and your camera work in tight spaces is impressive. Thanks!

DodgyRogue says:

Fantastic tutorial! It really helped us to swap out the alternator today and everything is working well again for just the price of a new alternator and some coolant and a day of cursing! The bolts were about as hard as in the video but it was the electrical connectors which were a bitch. The secondary wiring (a sensor?) to the alternator we couldn’t get off in situ and we disconnected it at the other 2 ends and dragged it out still attached to the alternator.

DIRTYI30 says:

Okay will do. Also, can it also be due to a bad fuse?

CarsNToys says:

Check the voltage and also the drive belt. A loose drive belt will can cause the battery light to illuminate.

DIRTYI30 says:

This helped a bunch, thanks. However, once I put the new alternator in the brake & battery light stay on while I am driving. I have yet to check the voltages, but I did buy it from advance auto parts. Could this be due to their refurbished junk?

CarsNToys says:

Glad to help. Cheers

Arturo Estrada says:

Great tutorial helped out a lot

CarsNToys says:

Hi Gods. Sorry for the late reply. Your comment did not end up in my inbox. There really isn’t any trick. If you can’t remove the electrical tab, try – very gently – using long needle nose pliers and gently squeezing the plastic tab. You have to be really careful if you try this technique but it will work.

CarsNToys says:

Glad to help, Joy. The cooling fan motors are bolted to the fan shroud. Make sure they are tighten to 40 ft lbs. and you’ll be good to go. Cheers

GodsAcoustic says:

Is there a trick to removing the electrical connector from the alternator? I can’t get it to come off and may have damaged the wires.

Joy Key says:

Best tutorial I have seen so far. Even though most say you don’t need to do it I am glad you showed the fan shroud removal. I need to remove that because my drivers side fan is loose and rattles. Do you know if there is a nut on the front that I can tighten for the fan? It feels like there is but until I pull the whole thing off I wont know for sure.
I appreciate the way you show the location of the bolts and give tips to remove them.
By the way you should post this as infiniti I-30 as well.Thx

CarsNToys says:

Some spots are tricky but it worked out. Glad to help. Cheers.

TheDigitalPillars says:

Awesome man I am gonna use this vid to replace mine. Must have been a pain to get a camera in on the action.

CarsNToys says:

Hi MIke. If you test & charge the battery, and the results look good, you can keep the battery you have. If the battery doesn’t hold a charge, then go ahead and replace it. (Your local auto part store will test your battery often for free.) Nothing is needed to adjust the alternator. Just give yourself enough time to complete the job.

Mike B says:

Right on! thanks dude. just double checkking its a good idea to put a new battery in when you replace the alternator right? my alternator went in my maxima and so the car was running soley on the battery which is now dead as well took awhile to get a charge into it in order to move it the other day so was gonna replace both

anything i should keep in mind when i do this? am i gonna need to have anything adjusted for the new alternator?

CarsNToys says:

That’s a good tip. I will definitely try that if it happens again. Thanks.

Xenobus says:

You can cut the bands on that hose clamp with just some clippers. If you push down on the top of the bolt it will bend away from the hose and give you enough room to fit them in. Big time saver.

simtech1rmj says:

Good camera and editing work.

CarsNToys says:

That’s a good tip Thanks for sharing

tony thomas says:

This video saved me a lot of time and effort but there are some things i can add.
I was able to ease the alternator out of the bottom w/o taking off the fans on the radiator. If you push back the a/c unit and take the alternator out pulley first pulling it dwn after you loosen it you can squeeze by the lower radiator hose. If u like you can take the hose off but i didn’t. With a little pressure it came out and went back up the same way saving me a lot more time amd effort of removing those fans

Do all maximas of this year come with a 6 cylinder engine?
