Great tip! I had the same symptoms with my 2003 Mercury 150. The tilt sender unit on that model grounds directly to the shaft and 18 summers of salt spray caused it to fail. Wire brushing and a lot of dielectric grease fixed the problem. Like you, I couldn't find anything on this issue in boating forums or YouTube. I really appreciate you posting this video. Saved me from buying a new sending unit and gauge.
