Mercury Outboard Piston Install: Without Ring Compressors

Mercury Outboard Piston Install: Without Ring Compressors

Installing Pistons with new rings without the compressors. It is a bit more challenging without the compressors but the average guy cannot afford or have these tools. My goal with my channel is to stay humble and to show that repairs can be made without expensive tools. I am moving forward with sealing up the powerhead and putting the whole engine back together today! Any questions or comments please put them below! I try to respond to everyone! As always, Thank you for your support and watching! Son

I place all three in block and represent bearings one piston at a time. Then use tweezers to place needles in cage after moving up close to crank

SZM says:

I was thinking to myself the whole video, how does he know the rings are in properly once they are in? Glad to see that there's a way to test for it once they are in. Learning lot's, long live MercSon !!!

Sam Tucker says:

My father and I did the same procedure with my 850. We used plastic pry tools for removing dash panels to get the rings compressed into the piston. It is doable you just have to be patient. My motor has run flawlessly for two seasons now.

robert payton says:

Heck, this was harder than the 6 you did a few years back.

Jim OConnor says:

Outstanding job MerCSon. Any chance you could do over using the ring compressors. Just kidding. Are the rings marked top or bottom
or does it matter.
