great video very very informative i love it how you explain everthing. i have 120 hp OD 1996 and reverse gear dont work, what do you think what should i check in lower unit, thats where problem is, linkage cable is where it needs to be. It rattles like crazy when i shift to reverse? thanks (bayliner 1700 ls)
thanks. does this motor leak oil from the engine if the lower is removed off the engine? I just did this replacement today and trimmed the motor all the way up without the lower in it and it started to leak oil. A lot of it.
Thank You for this Video. I did it Myself last night for the first time. I was a little worried at first because after i took off the 5 bolts of my 70hp Merc i couldn’t pull the transfer case off. I was worried perhaps there was a bolt i had missed. Well i didn’t miss any, all it needed was a couple of hits from my mallet and i used a screwdriver to wedge it apart. OMG was the impeller chewed up. Pisses me off i was at mechanic few weeks ago and they said the cooling system was fine.
I did all that and everything came apart fine EXECPT the impeller wont come off the drive shaft! How do I fix that? it will move side to side and upand down slightly but ut WONT come off!!! and I am stuck!
Thanks marynbeau. I have an 80 Hos Merc that didnt have water comin from the tell-tale, an was wonderin how to change the impeller, you saved me some hard earned, so thank you very much for the helpfull clip. She’s up an runnin again and i have fish in the freezer.

wow, thank u sir… thank was great ! , i watched this then i went and did mine,
mine seemed ok until i pulled it out, and had muitiple cracks and some of the fan blades were soft wich is a sign on going bad soon… Now that i have a new one, OMFG the stream of water that comes out is enough to put out a fire, well a small fire..lol…thanks again ….cheer’s
Great video. One thing though: I read that you are supposed to renew the silicone gasket material at the rear of the pump (actually on the cross member behind the pump) to keep exhaust gasses from entering the pump area.

Hello! I do have a question ( i may have missed the answer in the comments, but here goes. ) Is this a mercury ‘tower of power’ ? the inline 6cyl? I have a mid-80s that needs lots of service – runs, but hasn’t been touched in a long time .

Thanks bro, changing waterpump in a 67 Merc 1100ss and was having problems getting the key set. Found this vid and did like you and got the key problem solved. Finished the waterpum and fired up the Merc Tower of Power and it pumps water just fine. Thanks again.
it’s the exact same process, just take your time, and you will do fine. it really is a simple thing to do by yourself. and thanks for watching the video.

Great video! This worked fine for my 2006 60 hp Mercury Bigfoot. Very few differences. Thanks for posting. Never realized how easy it was : )
What is the little rubber hose that attached to a square fitting that goes right above the lower unit and goes into the front of the motor?
