Can you tell me how you found out the parking brake needed to be replaced? I have the same vehicle and it sounds like I have a flat tire while driving but none of my tires are flat, could it be the parking brake is broken? Sounds like its coming from the wheels. It just started this after I can through a water puddle yesterday. I'm confused.

Many thanks from Doc!

I have had a lot of help from Autodoc with my 2001 W163-ML320 repairs. I see comments that seem inappropriate for this type of video. Think. How many Mercedes repairs are carried out by Certified Mercedes Techs vs just regular humans? These videos are better because they don't talk. Torque smorgue. If you do any wrenching you get pretty good at knowing the torque required for many repairs. Unless you really know how to use a torque wrench you may be better off just using good sense. Do you clean all bolts to a clean factory state before torquing? Replacing bolts that are basically perfect is a waste. Why build to a higher standard if all fasteners removed are tossed? Mercedes builds quality and uses the best available materials for a reason. My old Mercedes is lucky it has me as the mechanic, otherwise it would be pushing up daisies in a salvage yard. I'm not going to invest $400 to have my wheel bearing replaced. I spent $400 on tools to do the job correctly… like a Merc Tech. If you know so much why are you watching this video? Mercedes are not magical vehicles. I've seen some pretty crappy performance on many parts on many models over the decades. Lighten up. Take a breath….

This video is for deaf mutes. Useless and not helpful.

Kee Ting says:

How do you know the adjustment is right?

holly owens says:

Would it be possible to tell me if the parking brake needs to be engaged before attempting the replacement. I tried to replacement but cannot get the parking brake toggle that the parking shoes stretch and attach to. It is the metal piece that sits in between the long spring.

Abe Terre says:

Great sequence of Removing and Replacing. This will assist me in my next rear brakes replacement. Just did the front ones.
Excellent work! Keep it up!

Hung Nguyen says:

I removed the parking brake lever toggle and don't know how to put it back. It has a hook inside it. Can you show me how to put it back, please? Thank you.
