6. Reprogram the Key Fob: After a battery replacement, some key fobs may require reprogramming. To reset your Mercedes key fob:
Stand near your vehicle and press the lock or unlock button on your key fob.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 2 (ignition on).
Press and hold the lock or unlock button on the key for at least five seconds.
Release the button and turn off the ignition.
Test your key fob to see if it is now working properly.

I could figure it out of my bmw key but mercedes its much well hidden the way you open it
So I bought my car in 2020, which means it took 3 years and 3 months for the battery to drain at which point there was a message on the MBUX screen.
They did give me a spare key upon purchase which probably already has another battery in I'm guessing
I had to use a wooden knife to undo the drawer
