@andy grant rx8 loss of power is caused by carbon buildup on the rotors usually the only fix is to have the engine replaced u can also TRY a mazda zoom cleaner NOT SEAFOAM as seafoam is NOT good for the engines.

andy grant says:

Love the video. Can u help me, my rx8 is loo
sing power, whenever i’m going over a hill the car hardly can make it.

i am a certified/master mazda AND rx8 technician……. dont assume everyone is an ass-clown…..ok?

FuLLeFFekT1 says:

Easy Button (for manual trans): Attach tow strap to your rotary vehicle and another car/truck, tow til its running again (make sure its in gear to get in spinning). Works everytime. Remember, premix is your friend!

marek0086 says:

Iv never read the manual. This is just common sense to me as i know how an engine works.

Yeiker Ortiz says:

I am please to know that you read the owners manual, Thanks Buddy.

Yeiker Ortiz says:

Thanks for the feedback buddy, I Appreciated.

marek0086 says:

The moron in the video instructs to first start cranking and THEN to put your foot on the gas. This will just flood the engine more!. FIRST u give 100% gas pedal…. and THEN u start cranking. And u only take your foot off the gas once you’ve stopped cranking.

marek0086 says:

Stop perpetuating the stupidity. All u have to do is give 100% gas pedal, then crank for 8 seconds, then take your foot off the gas pedal, wait 10 seconds, again give 100% throttle, then crank for 8 seconds, then take foot off gas, then wait 10 seconds. You do this a few times. Many people don’t understand how to the injectors react to throttle position and end up being at less than 100% throttle while the engine is still turning, either at the beginning or end of cranking. Idiots.

marek0086 says:

Im getting REALLY sick and tired of these ass-clowns making these videos where they always get something wrong and end up giving bad advice. De-flooding these engines is not rocket science!… and yet i STILL havn’t come across a video thats 100% correct on the procedure. How i wish people weren’t so stupid.

asambi69 says:

Your supposed to stay under 4k rpm when your car is cold, or engine damage can result.

NO NAME says:

Redlining the rotary engine will NOT damage the converter……..

Yeiker Ortiz says:

you’re welcome anytime 😀

Yeiker Ortiz says:

try checking all your fuses

I’ve got a RX8.I’ve stopped the car for about 6 weeks and it got flooded.I’ve manage to start the car but now the warning engine light is on and sometimes the coolant light comes on as well. Also I feel the car loosing power. I’ve done the diagnostic and it comes up with code P0562(System voltage low)I’ve cleaned the spark plugs,I’ve tested the battery, even known the battery light never came on,and I’ve tested the alternator, everything seems fine.Does anyone knows what else could it be? Thanks

My rx8 got flooded it drain the battery so we put the battery of my navigator in my rx8 we took the sparks plugs out cleaned it we put them on without the cables and we try a few times until we started the car.. but since then my radio don’t turn on neither my AC all the lights were the radio and climate control dont light up can anyone help and have a way to fix it.

AFBHUNTER says:

Hey man, awesome video it really worked, I tried it several times before it the car started , thanks for posting this helpful video

amndeepshergill says:

after a rx8 has flooded it is also recommended to replace the plugs to. Also when u floor the accelerator all the way and crank the injectors are disabled. Best way to de-flood a rx8 is to remove plugs, disconnect crank sensor, disconnect secondary air pump and crank. Then squrit a little oil, install new plugs and start.

nitrosmokerx8 says:

Never tried this, just pull started every spring..

jivefuzzy says:

Hey just wanted to thank you, followed your steps to the T and it help get the car running again. good post and thanks again!

nezerac says:

alriiight alright. I’ll leave it alone. lol.

François Luneau says:

I don’t know how to tell you this anymore, but I’ve done it many times before, to no avail. The solution has always been to cut the gas flow through removing the fuse of the fuel pump, then sometimes even removing the spark plugs to let everything evaporate. It’s pretty hopeless when it gets flooded.

nezerac says:

Meh. Try it dude. You’ll probably find out that mazda thought of this and realized no special measures were needed. Also even a cold start up and not letting it idle to op/t shouldn’t flood the engine. Sounds like something else is afoot here. Think about it. even on cold start. Your injectors shouldn’t be pumping THAT much more unburned fuel into the cylinders. It sounds to me like a modification on the o2 is probably the issue. it’s probably too far down the pike to do any good on cold starts.

François Luneau says:

Actually, the car manual states we should do that (press the pedal down) when just cranking the starter without touching the pedal doesn’t work for 10 seconds, but the mechanics at the several dealers I’ve visited all stated this wasn’t recommended. My experience is that they don’t know the rotary any better than anyone as they don’t sell and maintain many anyway, but I also noticed that following the manual instructions to resolve flooding didn’t work. All in all the rotary is a different beast

François Luneau says:

I already did it several times, unintentionally, and talk from experience. Never stopping the engine cold helps tremendously. And the pedal to the floor trick never worked for me.

A new starter, faster revving and with more compression, solved the problem on my first RX-8 (a 2005). My last one never had the issue yet (a 2008).

nezerac says:

you should intentionally flood yours and do a bit of home R&D. :D

nezerac says:

Only reasoning I’ve come up with is the fact that there’s no rings or sumps underneath what would be “the cylinders” and instead there’s just a wall. Sounds as if there’s nowhere for the fuel to vacate and the only other way to rid this issue is with a warm engine (which i’m sure keeps the issue from ever occuring). My advice is crank for 5 seconds, let it sit five with the accelerator floored for a 30sec stint then start. No way the fumes should linger longer than that.

François Luneau says:

I agree it should work in all fuel injected engines, but can assure you it doesn’t most of the time with the RX-8. At least in my experience. And as you could read, I’m not alone. And I’d be soooo happy to be wrong about this, but somehow the 8 is a little more tricky. Still a great car to drive though!

nezerac says:

So clear flood mode doesn’t work on mazda’s? Could’ve sworn you hold the pedal to the floor (which is clear flood mode on EVERY fuel injected motor EVER). Crank the fumes out of your cylinders for 5 seconds maybe 10 with a rotary not having cylinders and all. Then let go of the pedal and BABOOM!!! Started. What’s with all this fuel pump business? Sounds like people just found a more complicated way to do something simple.

sssaaammm888 says:

so to unflood do you just have to crank it (with power cable to another car) until it starts up and wait for it to finish smoking? thanks

Alyssa Ramsey says:

are there any retaining clips or hooks holding the battery in/ i removed the ground and positive from battery but it seems to be stuck in the tray? thx i know its a little off topic.

itsuyo89 says:

My RX-8 obviously flooded about 2 weeks ago, it hurt my pride thinking that I would need it towed. However my dad and I stumbled on this gem of a video and voila my car was brought back to life. It is much easier if you have a partner especially when you pull out the fuel pump fuse. My 8 started turning over without the fuse in place so I had my uncle help me out by having him actually snapped the fuse back in place right as it was turning over. This video was definitely helpful

woms87 says:

Which plug is it exactly?

woms87 says:

I did everything said hear and it still just whines and doesn’t want to do anything. when I would stop for a second and look at my exhaust there was a little smoke pouring out but that’s about it.. any suggestions?

What if you have an automatic? Is it the same procedure just without the clutch?
