My boyfriend’s car has just started doing this. And it’s really bugging him
because he just got his car fixed (engine swap and cooling fan). The few
times I’ve driven his car, I’ve never had that problem. I suggested for him
to just not use it until he can have it looked at. I’ll have to show him
this video when he gets home from work.
Hi, while shifting to third gear, can you hold it? does it kick while
holding it?
Also, I don’t know if his second gear is messed up too. From time to time
he will shift into second and his gear grinds. I don’t know. Maybe he’s not
shifting all the way before he takes his foot off the clutch.
Yup, having the same problem on my 3 as well. I have been experimenting to
try and see if it is only in certain situations, such as if the car is
still accellerating down a hill, or perhaps only when you are coming from
higher revs, but so far no dice. I plan on asking the local Mazda
Dealership about it today. Will let you know what they say.

If you are able to double clutch it sometimes and get it to stay, I would
bet you need a new 3 syncro.I know I have problems in my five speed when
going to third and its not warmed up, but if I double clutch it, it won’t
grind.
I’m not sure I’m happy to share that I have the same problem – but I have 🙁
Did you change your transmission fluid yet? Change car? 😉
I’m hoping to change the tranny fluid in a couple of days. I’ll let you
know if it helps.
