how do i remove the engine on a defender 300tdi?? any videos on how to ?
Cool video dude keep it up
very close but the adjuster and idler different. check manual for settings data.
i have a 300tdi disco is it just the same procedure
Owch! There is a load of video on my channel marked Dealing with a broken timing belt if you need any help…
Thanks and big thumbs up for the video – found it very useful since my timing belt on my Disco 300TDI just broke.
It was fitted to the Range Rover Classic at some point in its history. Some rave about it being good. From what I remember it was made in Italy… ???
whats a vm engine?
Discovery engine. Process is the same on the defender.
Hi is this a defender or Discovery?
Owch!
I had a talk with Zeus who made the timing gear conversion…they took it off the market becuase of running untrue problems with the cam gear…
I’ve heard about these conversion kits that convert the timing belt to a set of metal gears thus no rubber belt etc. Have you any experience with these kits or know if they’re any good?
look lower down the page at video responses on this page..
Hi, yes it is. There is a video on my channel under “checking the VE pump timing with the cover plate on”… I’ll see if you tube lets me add a video link under this video
Hi, Is it possible to check if the timing in 300tdi jumped or not without removing the timing cover?
Many thanks
timing belt a tooth out would be really hard to start or not run at all, failing that run badly and in the worst case the valves will be hitting the piston crown.
cheers … it was the front cover, it had been heli coiled and the roller bearing was not holding the amount of Nm , applied..
Hi , could be a twisted or cracked timing case front cover??
yet another great video , easy to understand spot on.. i have had a problem where my belt has worn on one side 200 tdi, its rubbing on the tensioner lip which guides the belt . all new bits fitted and all looks as it should ? what could be causing this … many thanks.
Hi answered post below..

Yeah waste gate pivot get siezed on those turbos, you need to disconnect the actuator /servo from the cranked lever and then work it loose … gently though.. might help to douse it in WD40 overnight before hand. yes had that problem but mine was siezed shut…!!!
Hi, I find your videos very helpful, but I have a question unrelated to the timing belt, hope you dont mind.
I think theres a problem with my wastegate(300tdi) I cant move the actuator rod by hand even using a steel bar to prise it. I know it takes a certain psi to get it to move but should it be movable by hand? Reason for checking is that its alittle flat around 2100rpm so I fear the wastegate may be stuck open. Many thanks
