At the age of nearly 30, the old Land Rover (110 County, Station Wagon, 2.5 TD) really earned at least some bigger repairs. Quite reliable, she has been serving me for 20 years. (not held in the garage ever because of the size) A common problem for all vehicles is that rust.
This truck was used through all the seasons of the year mostly on the mountain roads and off road through wilderness. Surprisingly, the rear of the chassis that usually rusts before has lasted for quite a long time; it could be repaired by patchwork made of steel sheet but I decided to make it all complete using thicker and stronger material. Probably it will last longer than anything else on that truck. I bought a 3 mm thick metal sheet, and cut it into measured elements … dimensions compared with the original cross memeber and extensions. After checking the chassis I carefully cut and removed the rusty parts … here is how did I do that all with a little help of my son and a friend (final welding). My pets at home made me company as always.

dobar posao
When you patched all the holes in the beams, I recommend to spray in an oil mixture, that's not damage the nature, to keep the metal resistance to corrosion. The same goes for the whole underbody of the Land Rover.
My friend did lite that to his car, he had his own mixture as he press it in the beams and other hollow spaces, as he did the same under the whole car and then he went out on gravel roads and drive hard to make the gravel get attached under the care to bind the sprayed mixture of the underbody of his car. But if you make a mixture of your own, please make it as a somewhat tacky so you get gravel to attach to the underbody of the Land Rover.
Wish you good luck my friend.
excellent !! a lot of work in repairing the rear cross member, nicely worked out. i could never get used to stick welding not brilliant at any welding…… and the 9 inch grinder is a beast to use . happy days cheers.
You are a God!!!!!!
Lijep pozdrav.Super napravljeno!Da li ovo znaci povratak Landom na Velebit??
Good video Paul. I'll introduce myself. I'm calling Igor. When I was after the war I bought Ziguli 1200. The car was 10 years old. It was so rusty that it could not be picked up. I had an older friend of a locksmith who repaired an old BMW police armored. He had golden hands as well as you. We put the car on a cradle and started a repair that lasted about a year. We worked on it after work. A U profile frame was placed in the floor. From the stainless steel sheet, he molded the floor and the underpass. Using acetylene autogen. He replaced the interior fenders. Fixed the holes that hold the dampers. All the doors were up at the bottom. He pulled up the pillars. After the boiling, we cut the metal. After spraying, we were grinding the spit git. He stood on the body. Natrela's floor from inside and out. seats and door fittings were fitted. Electroinstalation. From the beginning I enjoyed it but later I was angry at myself. But when I was sitting in a new color in my car, I was happy. Even though I was young, I loved him. I rode with him for about ten years. You're smart. We do not serve you long. I greet Igor.
Absolutely amazing. I cannot believe you built the cross member from scratch! Hats off to you!

Svaka čast na trudu Pavle !!!!
Awful lot of work there. Especially the extra time it takes to move the cameras. I hope it holds for you. Nice job.
OMG dear Pavle, what a fearsome back breaking job, but luckily, you had some help from both your son and a friend. This is a most unusual film, for one who is so used to bringing us nature films, but it just shows that sometimes in order to get to that mountain that is in your soul for all time and to film, it takes a bit of conveyance to get you there. And if it is an old, rusty Land Rover, well, I can understand how important it was for you to fix the rusty parts and all the other necessities that were needed to make it serviceable 20 years later. It surely holds some nostalgic memories for you. This is the LR that took you and Lik and dear little Laca on many of your memorable trips up to that Velebit mountain with your writing materials in hand to create a diary of all that happened with those wolves. I am simply amazed at how you handle all that equipment. The welding and fitting the hoses and all under the watchful eyes of your little doggie and your buzzard, plus the baby crow. My son would be most interested in all this work. Great film, Pavle and I suspect it was also your guitar playing that added a nice touch.
