for this model?

sl1 single cam 8 valve

My car is 1996 Saturn SW2 station wagon. Could you tell me where the knock
sensor is located in the engine? What is the black sensor with blue
connector and white wire to the right of the knock sensor (I’m just
curious)? Thank you.

Eduardo Aguilar says:

what is that next to the knock sensor?? to the right of it. I noticed on my
96 saturn SL2 that sensor next to the knock sensor has been purposely cut
of it’s power supply. I just barely noticed that mine was cut a couple of
days ago when i did an oil change.

Tay6oThaMailMan says:

@imdaveami…. have u tried the thermostat? that can cause your car to run
hot

Phillip Reed says:

how do you know if its bad?

M Vs says:

He said “22mm” at 22 seconds. Making car videos LIKE A BOSS.

JunkmanJim says:

The price is good if that includes the sensor. Doing mine right now and
have to remove the intake manifold and drain the coolant. If your car has a
lot miles then see if you can get a discount by having them replace the
valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, maybe spark plug wires and coolant hose
under the manifold while everything is off. Good luck!

Fernando Suarez says:

Where are both knock sensors on a 1998 Toyota Camry v6? Or how much should
a mechanic charge me? They ask me for $300 each. Is that price reasonable?
Please advice.

MacHead G5er says:

@tt2ent I never said it created knock. If it does not detect it then the
timing can’t be adjusted when you do get knock say with a crappy fuel. Also
note i said spark plugs are new and good to go. Anyway it was the EGR valve.

MacHead G5er says:

is it rare for a knock sensor to fail? I just started to get knock/ping and
i ran fuel cleaner techron for 2 tanks no help so now i am looking at knock
sensor. I read a few minutes ago you can idle the car then tap near intake
manifold with a wrench and if sensor is working the idle speed will change
and if not working no change in idle speed.

ballershanelle says:

@omarG19100…its to the right of the starter. I had replace the crankshaft
position sensor beside it.

richpin06a says:

@wildwoodtop The knock sensor tells the computer when the engine is
preignighting (knock)so it can retard the ignition so there is no damage to
the engine.

Omar Chisolm says:

oh sorry i meant to say where on the engine because i dont know where it is
to begin wit? =D THANKS

arubin22 says:

Rich, how ya doing man. I was just wondering if all 96 or newer vehicles
had knock sensors because I can’t find mine. I had a 2000 saturn for 6
years and got pretty familiar with it. But now I have a 2000 camry, and the
oil pressure switch looks a lot like a knock sensor. Any clue where the
darn thing is?

DrEwBaBy625 says:

i took my truck in for an inspection check engine light was on from the
knock sensor so they were going to fix it. i dropped the truck off at 7:30
am they close at 6 and they still were not done with it! and it was in the
garage all day! pisses me off!. i have no way to school tomorrow.

richpin06a says:

If you have a deep 22mm socket i don’t see why not.

Fernando Suarez says:

Ok, thanks for answering anyway

Omar Chisolm says:

@richpin06a where exactly is the knock sensor located on the engine(sohc)?

Kyle Brouwere says:

where is the knock sensor located? I have a friend who wants me to do his
and i have no idea where it is located on his 2001 sl1

jehlumi says:

it is the same sensor

Omar Chisolm says:

@RICHPIN06A HOPEFULLY ITS NOT UNDER THE ENGINE (FINGERS CROSSED).

MacHead G5er says:

@richpin06a Ok with that info i did more digging. Since knock ping seems to
be only with hard acceleration or going up hill and my spark plug/wires are
new and everything work fine with them last year when i replaced them I’m
thinking the EGR valve is the next place to look going by what i read
online in the last 30 minutes.
