Ok… so, does that mean it's a bad relay that is the cause of that. Or does the cluch engaging mean that the compressor is good.??

I just tried this and the compressor clutch never engaged. So I'm guessing soemthing is wrong with the compressor itself? Any thoughts? Or possibly power isn't even getting to the relay at all. I checked all 3 fuses (inside 10, PDC 9 and 27) that are associated with the AC and all 3 were good. Is there anything else I can try before replacing the whole compressor?

Thanks guy! I'll give it a shot.

Another simple way is to check for voltage going to the compressor. Just disconnect the connector and test power and ground

My AC makes a loud humming noise and it’s not the blower sounds like it’s coming from the engine bay ? any suggestions

Hey man, I did this exactly but I realized that the compressor doesn't engage UNLESS the relay is jumped. I bought a new relay and it still didn't engage. It still only works when jumped with a paperclip. Not sure what to do, it engages perfectly fine while jumped. It's a 96 so it's always a pain to figure out what part I need for it because of how mixed and matched it is. I pulled the clutch face off thinking it was the clutch shims, but now about half of the top of the clutch face is bent by probably a quarter of the way (Doesn't really affect anything when jumping with a paper clip). Any ideas what this could be? I filled the thing with an old r134a can and now it's definitely over filled I think, even when it was at a perfect level of freon, the damn thing still wouldn't turn.

This is a great way to test the AC compressor clutch, but it won't tell you if the compressor itself is working properly.

I put mine on a switch on the dash because it's an old very inefficient r12 system and acts like a Jake break coming down the mountains in 4low with the nv3550
