Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 Transfer Case Control Module – how to replace and fix noise during start up

Our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel was making a knocking noise for a few seconds during start up that was coming from underneath the middle of the car. It was also clunking into second gear. Replacing the transfer case control module was a quick and easy fix.

Part numbers as of Feb 2022 is 68395074AA

Thanks very much! I was experiencing the same problems with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. My biggest problem was matching my mods old numbers to the updated mod numbers. My original TCM is #P56029423AG. I was instructed that #68395643AA was the compatible replacement part number. Thanks again for your video.

Hi boss,
Just a quick question,does your jeep make a hard turning? If so, does it fix it?i have the same problem, making exactly the same noise

@MyAMJourney says:

Much appreciated! One additional tip, move the driver seat back before disconnecting the battery. Otherwise you won't be able to.

@brianjackson5097 says:

Did your 4wd low not engage. I get the same clicking when starting car, or changing gears, or putting into park. When I'm doi g 60mph+ I get a dash message that says service 4wd system. But once the car shuts off it disappears

@dbmotorsports5506 says:

Does the module still need to be dealer programmed?

Or is it plug and play good to go

@AlphaWolf.300 says:

Is it possible for the clunk to not only be for a few second but constantly while the car is on? 2016 srt Jeep all same symptoms no check engine light. My ticking noise sounds the same but it’s consistent and changes with rpm

@andredavis1735 says:

The year 2015 to 2018 used the same type transfer case module.. no matter the code number on it, or we should have the same number matching.???

I need some advice – 2013 3.0 CRD – C140A-92 error showed up: transfer case motor control performance/incorrect operation. I also had the loud bang when changing gears (yet not the rattling sound) so decided to get the new module. The' bang' disappeared – now drives and changes gears smoothly yet for short time rattling emerged – then disappeared. The error initially disappeared, later on returned. When the error is displayed I'm unable to engage the low range; when disappears – I can get to low range… Any suggestions? Will it be the motor itself? The error shows the transfer case clutch beyond the standard position (or something like this) whatever it means… Did you ever have anything like that? Can you advise anything, please? Thanks

@JoseManuel-mj6qg says:

I have awd service light on this will work too ?

@joannaarroyo6897 says:

2015 jeep grand cherokee

Then making it when you change to the different gears
4wd service message pops up
So i need a new transfer case?
Does transfer case need to be programmed?

@wmadyun07 says:

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Worked perfect on 2012 WK2!!! No more clicking noise at startup, no more binding when turning at slow speeds and after a year I’m able to shift into 4×4 and use my WK2 for what I purchased it for! Thank you very much!!!!

@wmadyun07 says:

Did you also get the “binding” when trying to turn at low speeds like in parking lot? Before module change? Thanks.

@bradleyberry1930 says:

Will this fix service 4 wheel drive. Mine is stuck in 4wd low

@RichLife_8 says:

I tried ordering this part for my 15 5.7 hemi but the part is on back ordered so they sent my money back. Are there any other places you recommend I can buy from

@RuKuaj says:

Update for future viewers.

Initial problem: 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland

Service air suspension immediately warning
Service 4wd system and traction control light
Weird noise like in video,
Bad binding/popping/slamming when reversing or turning at low speeds.
Engine light
Quadra lift buttons didn’t work.

After installing the new control module all of these issues disappeared. Hope this helps, and thank you for posting this video. Got mine for $141 and saved me thousands and a few bad headaches
