no not without major modifications at that point i’d just build new boxes that weren’t hollow plastic
Can you install a larger speaker in the factory sound bar/hubs? Say 6.5?
I’ve seen the Polk speakers on Crutchfield’s site.
I agree. I replaced both speakers in the soundbar with Pyle (3) ways and the improvement was minimal. Was better, but not near what I was expecting.
I agree with BSK that a sub (and an AMP) are sorely needed in JKs.
Just and FYI for the newer JK owners.. My 2013 JK has a different soundbar and the speakers have (3) screws. They require and adapter to bolt the (4) screw speakers to.
The front speakers in the 2013 are also different sizes and there are no screws on the side like the older JKs. Not sure what year Jeep changed all that but they are different.
they are ok, need a sub to make them sound better, they are more of a midrange sounding speaker
HOW DID THEY SOUND?
well, i guess amazon sells everything now days. i’ll have to start looking on their and see what they have
Thanks, I actually ordered them from Amazon! Great Deal, 2 pair for 12 bucks and a Set of brackets for 12 bucks, everything should be here in a few days and i will be rockin the Jeep, lol!!!!!
Thanks for replying!
i always order all my stereo equipment from crutchfield as they send you everything you need to do the install. i know you can order the pigtails from them or get them free when you order speakers
2005 TJ need to replace speakers, Can you tell me where I can get the Wiring pigtails so I DON’T have to splice the wires?
Thank you.
nope the door is hardly a 1″ inch thick
Are there speakers on the rear door? The door that folds out.
interesting tip i’ll have to keep that in mind
Nice vid. I installed the same Polk speakers and found that they sound a whole lot better if you put some soft foam behind them. I tried mine both ways and it really does make a difference.
Do you know how you would install a sub? I am trying to get lows and need help.
just a tip from a viewer, you dont need the camera a inch from what your looking at, back away and point at it
i ordered the stereo and speakers from crutchfield.ca and they give you all the mounting brackets, wiring adapters and everything you need to do a painless install
Where did you get the mounting plates?
What! No beer? Oh man…..
i am not sure where you would get the mount for the speakers as i purchased everything from crutchfield and they give you everything you need for the install
Thank you for making and posting these videos! Very informative and priceless. Cheers, man!
You can also pull the fuses out of the fuse box under the hood. Just take the starter fuse fuel fuss etc.
ah i learned something new, i didn’t know that as mine has the grey key. a kill switch for the fuel pump is a great idea or even a master kill for your battery as well. in that case you could go with a alarm with a starter kill it would be easy to install since your not bypassing any security
My TJ has the black key and I was reading that only the grey keys are chipped but I was thinking of putting a hidden killswitch for the fuel pump. I live in Idaho right now but I’m moving to Phoenix AZ in August and car theft is pretty big out there.
that’ a good question depending on your purpose for the jeep, if your going to be removing the doors and top a security is pretty pointless. the key is already chipped so stealing it would be a pain in the ass. right now i’m just rolling with a cheap stereo with a removable faceplate that’s my security for now
What would you do for security on the TJ?
not in this video i didn’t but in the bmw i am installing 2 subs and a amp
Did you have to get a amp
Installed the Kicker DS525 in an 96 Freightliner with an overhead console. Best fit, tried several other models at the local stereo shop. Lot of fun, had to remove the headliner, then pull the console out. Wanted to keep the factory grills in place, the DS525 were the perfect fit, Carl
the speakers are ok, they have a nice sound but not loud or have much bass. They would be best suited with a small sub
