For G35 Owners with the mid-deck speaker, the process is a little more involved. The third brake lamp is secured with two screws. The driver side screw is easily accessed from the trunk after letting down the inside upper trunk panel. Infiniti calls for removing the rear seat to access the two screws, charges 587.00. I drilled a hole through the two metal panels, easy to do in order to access the passenger side release screw. I used a 1/2 bit just in case I was off a little allowing more room for the screw driver. I removed the passenger side screw as well as the speaker grill cover. The grill cover, permanently attached is difficult to free. I broke the two securing pins closest to the rear window. Lifting the cover allows access to gently push the middle side release pins allowing for the grill to be removed. From there, I slid the third brake light easily out, and wiggled the black diode, and the light worked just fine. I reassembled which was quick now that the retaining screw hole was drilled. The speaker cover snapped securely in place and everything works great. For information, typically LED lights don’t fail and it’s normally a diode. A replacement lamp can be purchased on-line for 150.00. Why Infiniti never predrilled an access hole is beyond me. But before you go through the trouble, first unplug and replug the wire, that just may do the trick.
There are two screws holding the third brake light on. Not one ,one is hiding by the metal holding the speaker.must drill it to get the second screw. Bad video
@mrondoualebos What's the name or part number of that carpet liner/moulding you pulled down at 0:15? Is that the trunk pass through moulding and does it come in one piece? My 2006 Infiniti G35 sedan seems to be missing that piece and it's causing some annoying rattling from the trunk area at speed. Please help, thanks!
I replaced mine from the back seat. I have a 2006 G35 coupe. I just popped the third brake light housing off the rear deck and there was the lamp. I removed the insulation, unscrewed the right/left screws, detached the plug and replaced the lamp. I did have to bend two plastic tabs that held the previous lamp in place. My after market was just a bit higher. Took me about 20 minutes.
