justin parra says:

Mine is kinda making the same noise but just when I start going into higher
rpm’s then when I let go of the gas to let the rpm’s drop it starts making
this sound like there’s something in the engine Is this the same noise
everyone else is talking about? Any advice would help I have an 05′ g35
coupe

Variable valve timing actuator your need 5w/30 oil full synthetic

Castlestoney says:

Regular or syn makes no difference. Theres absolutly no difference in wear
protection or viscosity. The difference is only intervals. Syn has longer
intervals. If you run reg dino oil and change it every 3500 miles you’ll
still recieve the same protection. So unless this cars oil wasnt changed
and checked correctly its not oil related.

mobbindag says:

Just so everyone knows, this problem has been solved and my engine was
replaced under warranty. It seems that I had an engine bearing that had
failed and sent metal shavings all throughout my engine, scratching and
pitting my camshaft. They believe this is due to low oil likely caused by
the classic VQ35DE oil consumption issue. More info can be found on the
original G35driver thread.

i have the same problem! its weird and have u ever found out wat the
problem was? thanks!

Djonkie Bonk says:

Your timing chain tensioner is bad, the VQ35 engines are known for that
sort of problem. Should be covered under your warranty.

Aimenatu1 says:

i have the same problem with my 05′ g35 it pisses me off everytime it
happens. i took it to infiniti and left it there they called me next day
and said come get your car nothing wrong with it. what should i tell them
is wrong with it.?

fabianc972 says:

Thanks for putting this video up I took to my Dealer they said the first
time o it’s normal the oil just needs to reach the head. Then took a back
to the dealer for a check engine light issue the other Tech said hey this
is definitely not right. So in short got a long block from the dealer
covered under my extend warranty.

john20022009 says:

Hi, I have the same problem now too..do you know what’s the problem for
that? and do i have to get a new engine for it? thankss

johnnyarpa says:

Sorry 2006 Honda accord lol

oyousef11 says:

this is a problem with the 05s…my 350z did it and only on cold
starts…dont know what caused the problem, i totalled the car ended up
buying a 04 g35 coupe 😛

Yasmani Gomez says:

I had the same problem there is a tensioner between the two head that hold
the chain that tensioner is about to brake it happen to me and it jump
timing it did the same exact noise all the time I start the car….Try to
fix it ASAP good luck

Dineth J says:

Hey man did a video respond with the noise my car makes. let me know if you
have any idea what it might be.

zr1cruz says:

1: cold start 2:engine still breaking in 3:oil need to be FULL synthetic,
if you running that car for what its for, conventional oil will ruin your
car in high rpms.

JACKSON Q. says:

oil ..ur car may be burning oil.. use a heavier grade stay off synthetic

johnnyarpa says:

My Honda accord 1996 makes that light clack noise before every start in the
morning and when it sits form more then 3 hrs I’ve changes the oil dose any
one no what it is before I take it to Honda and get ripped off

Joel Rheault says:

Sounds almost like a starter grind. And Honestly.. Buy Amsoil!!! It is THE
best oil you can get!! I use it in my 89 kawasaki bayou 300 and it’s never
needed any internals changed! I’ve used it in my dodge neon since I got it.
And am going to continue to use it to I die

Mohammad Afifi says:

you used the oil too much so it burned and caused this it will be fixed
eventually after you 2nd replacement of oil OR check the engine’s valve
springs, it may cause the same sound nothing to worry about

TruAgape123 says:

It’s ur timing chain tensioner. The Infiniti techs know this, they’re just
waiting for your warranty to run out so that they won’t have to fit the
bill. Every since the Renault partnership, Nissan/ Infiniti’ reliability
has declined.

rickmack22 says:

Mine does it.. idk if its that loud but i know it makes a noise.. i figured
it was the timing chain tensioners being loose do to lack of oil pressure
or something.. figured they work off oil pressure.. and also my car has
203k now with no issues coming from it yet.. if a timing set was not so
much money id swap it all out.. but im now putting 1300 in a motor i plan
to pull next year

kgh31386 says:

I worked at a Nissan dealership for a few years. A good number of the
Xterras made that same noise brand new. I’m not sure if it was because the
A/C was on when they were started or what…but I think I heard somewhere
it’s related to the A/C

COBRAlex says:

im scared cause my g35 is doing that noise from your first start up.. but
it only does it sometimes but its rare.. is that how ur started?????

Bink718 says:

i forgot to add it also makes this noise SOMETIMES when i start the car up.
its a 2004 G35 Sedan.

orsa416 says:

It also makes tha sound on my 05 g35 sedan….its been doing it since
60,000 miles

jtmagicman25 says:

synthetic oils don’t beak down as bad under heat stress. royal purple is
good stuff, just way too expensive. it lasts a long time before it needs
changing too. reg oil is terrible in turbo cars cause they run so much
hotter. I lose pressure when my car reaches temp, and it fried yet another
turbo.

turps0 says:

The bearing in your water pump is bad. I know it sounds weird, but that is
where that noise comes from. sometimes it happens and sometimes it won’t.
sometimes the bearing is lined up properly, and other times the torque it
receives is too much for it, and misaligns causing temporary grinding.

Jon Hashimi says:

@mobbindag do you know if this is a recall on our engines? because i get
the same noise my 2005 g35 coupe 6 speed manual. my warranty is up so the
only way i can get it fixed is through recall thanks asap

BodyguardM45 says:

I don’t know if its timing chain tensioner but it is the Tensioner that
causes this more than low oil/oil consumption issue… Mine has had a
clicking noise since about 45k now I’m at 65k and a cold start up revealed
a serious clanking/knocking sound so going to take it in to dealership!!

Daniel DiMatteo says:

I just had the exact same problem with my 07 G35 6MT Coupe with 60k miles.
Very similar clankinh/grinding noise upon starting the engine. Set up an
appointment at my local Infiniti dealer (Infiniti of Norwood, MA). The
check-engine light only came on as I was driving it to the dealer. Same
result…new engine. Dealer was absolutely awesome to deal with!! Luckily
everything was covered by the extended warranty I purchased when I bought
it. Picking it up in this Wed with the new engine!!

Sebastian Rosenberg says:

How much was the extended warranty?

540flips says:

Shit sounds old

dukviper90 says:

My car does this at start up all so, g35 coupe. I honestly think it’s just
the variable valve timing actuating. Pathfinder with VQ35DE did the same
thing every now and then also. I’m not worried about it at all since it
drives fine and silky smooth so I’m going to deem it as normal. When it
blows, give me an excuse for Cp pistons and eagle rods and studs. 🙂

Djeeeman says:

So is this normal or not? I have an 03 and on cold start ups this happens.
But the rest of the day the car does not make that noise again. Please let
me know

NismSteroid says:

Use Prolong/Castrol GTX Starup, and Magnatec Oil. Have been in South AFrica
for many years. We dont use much else in SA climate and my Nissan premera
which is turbo charged 200sti does a 1/4 mile in 9 secs has done 190 000
miles. Caused by sticky valves tappets and timing chain if your using
one.(Self Adjusting Hydraulic tappets and tensioner)
